Modern Photography was the popular American photo magazine published and internationally distributed for 52 years from New York City. An unrelated Modern Photography magazine was published in Taiwan from 1976.[1]

History

Modern Photography was a retitling of Minicam, a magazine published since 1937 in Cinncinnati and edited by George Hoxie, devoted to what was then considered the 'miniature' camera format, 35mm.

Editors of Modern Photography included Patricia Caulfield.[2]

Contents

Amongst its regular columns, Modern Photography provided lens tests or over 20 years for which contributors photographed a grouping of high-contrast U.S. Air Force resolution targets to determine quality at lens definition at centres and corners of the negative.[3][4]

Cessation

After Capital Cities-ABC sold the magazine to Diamandis Communications, the new owner announced that publication would cease as of the July issue of 1989, at which time its subscriber list was taken over by its larger rival, Popular Photography owned by Diamandis.[5]
