Carl Paul Pfleiderer, also listed as Karl Pfleiderer, was a German mechanical engineer[1] and 1912-1952 high school teacher at the Technical University of Braunschweig . He developed the theoretical foundations of modern centrifugal pump construction.

Life and Work

The son of the clothier Carl Pfleiderer (1845-1927) and his wife Marie, born Wirth (1847-1895) graduated in 1899 from the secondary school. He studied from 1901 to 1905 mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Stuttgart and completed his studies with the state examination and the degree of Dipl.-Ing .. In 1906 followed the promotion of Dr.-Ing. with a thesis on dynamic processes during start-up of equipment . This was followed in 1907 by several years in the industry as a design engineer for pumps and steam engines. From 1909 he worked for Thyssen in Mülheim an der Ruhr worked as a senior engineer and head of the department.

Honours

Pfleiderer was appointed the occasion of his 70th birthday, an honorary doctorate from the University of Stuttgart in 1951. Also In 1951 he was made ​​an honorary senator of the Technical University of Brunswick and an honorary member of the VDI . In 1956 it was the Federal Cross of Merit awarded and in the same year, the Pfleiderer Institute for Fluid Machinery named after him. On the occasion of the 100th birthday of Pfleiderer was from 14 to 16 October 1981, the VDI conference Hydraulic Machinery - Carl Pfleiderer Memorial meeting held at the TU Braunschweig. On his 125th birthday took place from 3 July to 15 September 2006, the exhibition Prof. Dr.-Ing. Carl Pfleiderer in the Braunschweig University Library instead.[2]
