:I nominate {{noping|Mattlore}} as Editor of the Week for over eight years of dedicated, prolific and high-quality editing principally in the fields of [[rugby league]] and New Zealand politics. I came across this 'Editor of the Week' page yesterday, and Mattlore immediately sprung to mind as the kind of unsung editor who deserves a formal 'thank you' from the Wikipedia community for his work. In over eight years, Mattlore has created (by my count) over 1,000 articles. 81% of his edits have been in the mainspace. His contribution to Wikipedia's coverage of rugby league has been immense. I can personally vouch for the quality of his contributions there. As you can see from a sample of his recent contributions, Mattlore not only creates a significant amount of content, but maintains a huge portfolio of articles, especially in areas that attract a lot of fanboys (rugby league) or that can be contentious (NZ politics). So far as I can tell, he's only ever received one barnstar for his work. I have no doubt he does not seek any more recognition, but he certainly deserves it.
You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

Disambiguation link notification for January 20

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited New Zealand Democratic Coalition, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mike Moore (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

SBW manager

Sorry if you took offense; none intended. I agree i could have moved it but i wanted to see where you wanted to add it. I was actually thinking of adding it in a more discreet manner, rather than on its own. What do you think of adding it under the section 2008-2010: Toulon as follows:

In July 2008, after linking up with new manager Khoder Nasser, Williams left Australia to join French rugby union club Toulon, citing salary cap concerns in a controversial exit.Suid-Afrikaanse (talk) 02:25, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, no offense taken (hence the smiley face). Sounds good - better than my poor effort! Mattlore (talk) 02:32, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciated. I will change it right away.Suid-Afrikaanse (talk) 02:42, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

Hey mate, if a player plays a test for Italy, does that make them notable enough to create? I was thinking of making a page for Knights player, Josh Mantellato who is in the 2012 NSW Cup team of the year, has played 4 tests for Italy (source) & will represent them in the World Cup. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 10:21, 1 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. The guidelines are here: WP:RLN. It says to be notable he has to have played in an international between two full or associate members of the RLIF or RLEF - which includes Italy as an affiliate of the RELF. However I'd just make sure you use as many references as you can to try and make sure it reached WP:GNG as well. Mattlore (talk) 20:11, 1 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

So basically, he's just notable enough but needs a heap of references? Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 08:46, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help needed

Hi Matt, just wondering if you can point me in the right direction on what to do. The GCRL page is now a bit of a disaster zone as we've had a keen newbie move it, chop it up and put up redirections. Is there a way to neatly fix things without losing the history of the original page? All of the GCRL info was previously at Gold Coast Rugby League but from what I can tell the GCRL page has been moved to Gold Coast Rugby League (Federation) and some info has been moved to Gold Coast Rugby League (Competition) while a new stub has been created on the Gold Coast Rugby League page. Bongomanrae (talk) 10:41, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, he did the same thing by moving the New Zealand competition article to New Zealand Rugby League Competition without sources. I have started a request to move it back to its original place of National Competition but its still pending, see Talk:NZRL National Competition.
I'll put in a move request to return it to Gold Coast Rugby League as that is the best way to save the history. In the meantime you can merge the two topics back if they are actually the same? Mattlore (talk) 06:31, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for your helpful comments at WP:CFDS. And sorry about the repeat nom for the Western Reds categories; I was not aware of the recent nomination and your previous explanation. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:13, 19 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ha! I think we simultaneously posted on each others' pages. Thanks for your comments there too. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:14, 19 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Incidentally, could you look at this. It's a weirdly formatted category. I thought the best thing to do might be just to use the current name, but you might have a different (ie, more informed) view. I'd welcome any input. Good Ol’factory (talk) 00:17, 19 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Italian dual-code rugby internationals?

Could you please take a look at Angelo Arrigoni, Vincenzo Bertolotto, and Giovanni Bonino and assess whether you think they are suitable for inclusion in the List of dual-code rugby internationals? My concern is whether the players on the Italian 1950 rugby league tour of England, France, and Wales, can be considered as rugby league internationals, as they appear to have played against only club sides (albeit first grade club sides), and a regional South Wales XIII. Also, I don't believe there was a Federazione Italiana Rugby League (or similar) back in 1950, so can the tour be considered "official"? Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 14:23, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the late reply! I think they've got a case. The intro to the List of dual-code rugby internationals talks about "senior international level" which an international side vs a first grade club could well be. The early NZ tours were conducted before the NZRFL was formed, I don't think thats a problem. Mattlore (talk) 21:01, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've added Angelo Arrigoni, Vincenzo Bertolotto, and Giovanni Bonino to the List of dual-code rugby internationals. Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 09:37, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Teddy Bartram

I was thinking that a DYK for Teddy Bartram might be appropriate as according to the Rugby Football Union; "In 1879 came the first definite example of a rugby player being paid, with Teddy Bartram receiving money from Yorkshire club Wakefield Trinity.", making him the first professional rugby player. Could you please take a look at the article, and perhaps help me through the DYK process? Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 09:37, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, it looks like a good fact for DYK but unfortunately to be eligible the page has to have been created in the last five days (or expanded fivefold in the last five days). Kind of silly, but thats the rule. Mattlore (talk) 00:19, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oooh, denied. Looks like I'll have to be quicker out of the blocks next time. Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 06:33, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

SBW category

Hi Mattlore. I was just confused why you removed the category i added. I mean i know that SBW already has the dual international category, but i don't understand why that then removes him of having the other category added? Shouldn't it be that any relevant category should be added, even if it may seem repetitive? Thanks.Suid-Afrikaanse (talk) 11:06, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, my logic was that because the dual international category is included in the cross code category then it is a duplicate. The same reason he is not in Category:Rugby league players because he is in Category:New Zealand rugby league players. Mattlore (talk) 20:46, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I fully understand. So you're totally against adding it then? Because i personally don't see a problem with the repetitive-type nature of it...but if you're against it then i have no problem with that either. Thanks.Suid-Afrikaanse (talk) 08:26, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Just seems to be the consensus I've always come across. I'm not strongly against it though so if the consensus moves then I'm happy to go with that. Mattlore (talk) 21:21, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mattlore. What's your thoughts on removing the photo on Sonny Bill Williams's page of him in Bulldogs colours? Rugby league notability

just want to know, Russia, Ukraine and Jamaica are now full members of the RLIF, also Canada, Latvia and Malta are affiliate members of the RLEF http://nz.sports.yahoo.com/news/article/-/19554688/rlif-welcomes-russia-ukraine-jamaica/would anyone who has played for any of these national team in a full test be notable to have a page made for them? also Keiki Misipeka would he fit under american football notability as he has played college football with Hawaii Warriors?Youndbuckerz (talk) 00:30, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I saw that thanks, obviously that would apply to matches those nations play from now on and not historical matches. Not sure on what the American football standards are - is college football enough for an article? Mattlore (talk) 00:37, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

this is what i read, American football/Canadian football figures are presumed notable if they:

  1. Have appeared in at least one regular season or post season game in any one of the following professional leagues: the Arena Football League, the Canadian Football League, the National Football League, the third American Football League, the All-America Football Conference or the United States Football League, or any other top-level professional league.
  2. Note: Players who play in minor or semi-professional leagues (such as af2) are not presumed notable unless they meet another criterion, such as notability arising from their college football days.

So like for example, the Canadian Colonial Cup squad from this year, none of them would be notable enough until they play a full test next year? Youndbuckerz (talk) 02:16, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that's how I would interpret the rugby league guidelines, because during this years Colonial Cup Canada wasn't a member but the 2014 Colonial Cup will be a match that meets the guidelines. It doesn't look like College football is enough to make Misipeka notable. Mattlore (talk) 02:24, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also, have a look at WP:NCOLLATH:
  • College athletes and coaches are notable if they have been the subject of non-trivial media coverage beyond merely a repeating of their statistics, mentions in game summaries, or other WP:ROUTINE coverage. Examples would include head coaches, well-known assistant coaches, or players who:
    1. Have won a national award (such as those listed in Template:College Football Awards or the equivalent in another sport), or established a major Division I (NCAA) record.
    2. Were inducted into the hall of fame in their sport (for example, the College Football Hall of Fame).
    3. Gained national media attention as an individual, not just as a player for a notable team.

NSW/QLD Cup players?

Do you think we could make them under notable players for rugby league since they are semi professional competitions that is the same level as the Co-operative Championship?Youndbuckerz (talk) 09:26, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No because they are not professionals. If they are any good they will play in the NRL shortly anyway so they will then be notable. The Co-operative is a bit different because of its history and there is promotion and relegation. But even someone who plays his whole career in the Co-operative would have a sketchy level of notability. Mattlore (talk) 20:18, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

South Africa/Jamaica players

I just created pages on South African and Jamaican internationals, they do come under notbale players as they play for full members of the RLIF/EF and have been for a while.. I can't see why they are listed for deletion as further info could come into their page later.. Can you give me a reason and also the answer on QLD/NSW Cup players?? so any player who has played for full members of the RLIF/EF are notable to have a page created for them??Youndbuckerz (talk) 10:03, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I think the guidelines are too generous as they are, really only professionals in the NRL or SL or players in a RLWC should have a page. Mattlore (talk) 09:55, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not 'First Grade' but...

I believe the term 'First Grade' is used for first team appearances in the southern hemisphere, would you know what reserve team appearances are called, e.g. "Reserve Grade", "Second Grade", "A Grade", etc. Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 16:18, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It would depend on the context but Reserve grade would be the most common term IMO. Mattlore (talk) 02:48, 4 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Question re: NZ Democratic Coalition page

Hi Matt - I'm interested to know if you have a reference in particular for the last paragraph in the History section on this page: New Zealand Democratic Coalition. Thanks for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pooroldluser (talkcontribs) 22:03, 11 March 2014 (UTC) Hey, its from the Michael Laws biography that is referenced at the bottom of the page. Christopher Bishop (politician)

Hi there Thanks for the message. I was wondering if you would like to help be build and expand the article's notability before proposing it for deletion? I am quite new on Wikipedia so any assistance would be great! Regards, Wipkipkedia (talk) 05:31, 31 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article Graeme Lowe has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not meet any notability that I can see.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Rugby union notability

Hi! I saw you edited a page for Jamie Burke awhile back, and I was hoping you might be interested in weighing in on the rugby union notability requirements that are quite different between men and women, and I believe no longer reflective of the game. Thank you! Val — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vgriffeth (talkcontribs) 00:23, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lebanon vs Fiji

Hey mate, you're the notability expert, would this upcoming test match be considered a notable one, in turn making the players that play in it notable? Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 09:19, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, thanks for the promotion. Off the top of my head I would say yes - IIRC Lebanon is a full member of the RLIF right? If it is then it should be considered a full test match. Mattlore (talk) 10:39, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

After having a look, yes it is a full member, so it should be right, thanks. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 11:09, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week

Editor of the Week
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week, for strong editing in the fields of rugby and New Zealand politics. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

User:Mkativerata submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

I nominate Mattlore as Editor of the Week for over eight years of dedicated, prolific and high-quality editing principally in the fields of rugby league and New Zealand politics.
