The three sons of Serlo de Cobham (Cobbeham) who was born about 1157 at Sterborough, Surrey, England, by his wfe (unknown but reported to have been born about 1161, in Surrey, England and married about 1187, at Surrey), were:

Henry de Cobham born about 1200 at Cobham in Kent, England, and married about 1218, and died in 1230 whose son was John de Cobham (b abt 1220 Cobham), who died in 1252, and had two brothers, Reginald de Cobham (b abt 1221 Cobham - 14 December 1258) who was a Sheriff of Kent (d 1258, Constable of Dover Castle), and William de Cobham (b abt 1223 Cobham - d 1265/57) who was a judge).

This Reginald de Cobham was a warden of the Cinque Ports sometime between 1241-1258.

Henry was the father of John de Cobham, Sheriff of Kent, whose first wife was a daughter of Warine FitzBenedict. It was by this union that John de Cobham of Cobham and Cowling, Sheriff of Kent was born.

Sir Reginald de Cobham may easily be confused with his nephew, another Knight, Sir Reginald Cobham, who was a son of John de Cobham of Cobham and Cowling, (Cooling, on the Hoo Peninsula), Sheriff of Kent.

A brother of John was Sir Henry de Cobham of Rundale (Rundell), Governor of Jersey & Guernsey (d 1316) who was married to Joan Penchester (b by 1269, d 1314/5), a daughter of Stephen de Pencester, lord warden of the cinque ports and owner of Penshurst Place.

The third son of John being Sir Reginald de Cobham of Orkesden and Eynesford who wed Joan d'Evere (dau of William d'Evere), whose son was Reginald de Cobham, the first Lord Sterborough (b abt 1295 - d 1361) the husband of Joan de Berkeley, the daughter of third lord (Sir Thomas) de Berkeley.

Sir Reginald Cobham, 1st Baron Cobham and and his decendants, ancestors of the Barons Cobham, are buried in Lingfield church, Surrey.

This Reginald, First Baron Cobham married Joan Berkeley, by whom he could claim to be related to the great and noble families of Sutton of Dudley, Beauchamp, De Despencer and Mortimer. The Cobham family however were well conected to the ruling families of England in their own right.
