'Portland parish contained all the lands to the west of the St. Martin's Parish line, excepting the City of Saint John, until it hit the Lancaster Parish line (the Saint John River). This parish disappeared after part of it was set off as Simonds Parish, and the rest (now known as the North End) joined Saint John city in 1889.[1]
