Casting

The lead actor was firstly chosen to be played by Emraan Hashmi, who also appeared in the original film. However, director Milan Luthria was searching for an older actor, and hence chose Akshay Kumar. Kumar is to play the role of Shoaib Khan (Dawood Ibrahim). In February 2012, it was announced that there were two male leads in the film, and the second parallel to Kumar, was signed to Shahid Kapoor. However, in March 2012, it was finalized that Imran Khan was actually playing the second male lead.[3] Many female actors were considered for the female lead, including Illeana D'Cruz, Kareena Kapoor, Kangna Ranaut, Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, however in April 2012, it was reported that Sonakshi Sinha had joined the cast as the female lead.[4] Later, in July 2012, Sonali Bendre was roped in to play a supporting character in the film.[5][6] In November 2012, it was announced that the film is scheduled to release on Eid 2013.[7] Sonakshi in an interview said"I play this young innocent girl, who comes to Mumbai to become an actress and gets caught up in this whole web. Basically the film is a love triangle between Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan and me. But what makes it interesting is the nature of the chemistry between my two relationships. The relationship I share with Akshay is very different from the one I share with Imran"[8]
