Gordon Chadwick (1936 - ) is a noted American industrial designer. He is best known as the co-designer (with Bill Stumpf) of the Aeron chair (1994), for Herman Miller.
History
Gordon Chadwick was born in Los Angeles, California, and developed an interest in furniture making from his grandfather, a cabinetmaker. Don Chadwick studied design at the University of California, Los Angeles. He worked for architect Victor Gruen, and in 1964 founded his own practice. He designed Chadwick Modular Seating (1974), and with Bill Stumpf designed the Equa 1 (1984) and the Aeron chair (1994), all for Herman Miller.[1] Business Week Magazine and Industrial Designers Society of America awarded Design of the Decade to the Aeron chair in 1999. [2] Known for designing his furniture using conventional tools, without computer assistance, he recently designed the Chadwick chair for Knoll. His Office/Studio, Don Chadwick & Associates, is located in Santa Monica, California.
