The Custodian of the Holy Land is an appointed office in the Franciscan order, which is approved by the Vatican.[1] The Custodian, or Custos, is the head of all Franciscans in the Holy Land.[2]
In 2004, Pierbattista Pizzaballa was appointed Custodian, succeeding Giovanni Battistell.[3][4]
