Revision as of 08:50, 25 July 2023

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."

  • To list a technical request: edit the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:

    {{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}

This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
  • If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
  • If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

Uncontroversial technical requests

Requests to revert undiscussed moves

Contested technical requests

This request is valid, but note that we will have to figure out if "the" in the middle of the title should be capitalized. That will depend on WP policy, because media sources discussing the album (not to mention the album cover) are all over the place. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 14:29, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure we should capitalise 'the', but I don't really mind. Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 18:59, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm tempted to contest this just because some people will query capitalisation (not a hill I want to die on though)... I will point to MOS:THETITLE though. -Kj cheetham (talk) 19:32, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The suggested title is rather odd – both in its capitalization and lack of punctuation. The current title seems more like an ordinary title in English. — BarrelProof (talk) 21:27, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Aden airport attack  Aden Airport attack (currently a redirect back to Aden airport attack) (move · discuss) – capitalization per Aden International Airport. Thepharoah17 (talk) 00:47, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Aden airport is a descriptive phrase in this case, not a proper name, so lower case should apply. As already noted, the proper name is Aden International Airport anyway, not Aden Airport. Personally I think the names are best as is.  — Amakuru (talk) 09:22, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • AS Val and VSS Vintorez  VSS Vintorez and AS Val (currently a redirect back to AS Val and VSS Vintorez) (move · discuss) – VSS Vintorez should be listed first per WP:Firearms, since it is the parent firearm and was produced first. Note: This was the original tittle given when the two articles were merged. JTC22 (talk) 00:17, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Guns & Glory involving this user as a possible sockpuppet of blocked user Guns & Glory. And see Guns & Glory's previous failed RM for this article. {{replyto|SilverLocust}} (talk) 07:35, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I recently moved the SVD (rifle) to a new name Kalashnikov Concern SVD. An RM discussion is currently on going. I read through previous RM discussions of the SVD, where the VSS Vintorez and AS Val article was mentioned, which was merged by user KnowledgeableHrvatica (talk). Direct quote taken from the user, "If they were to be merged, regardless, VSS Vintorez should be the one to take priority, as that rifle was developed initially, however since similar mechanisms doesn't seem to be the precedent on Wikipedia."
Guns & Glory then carelessly moved the page to AS Val and VSS Vintorez then to VSS and AS, without going through RM discussion.
I am simply reverting back to the tittle given by user KnowledgeableHrvatica. Which was not contested. JTC22 (talk) 08:41, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Amici miei – Atto III  Amici miei - Atto III (currently a redirect back to Amici miei – Atto III) (move) – It's correct to insert the dash "-". JackkBrown (talk) 12:57, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the page history, it appears that the article was originally titled with a hyphen, but was moved to the current title in 2013, with the explanation "WP:HYPHEN". That guideline doesn't seem to say anything explicit about which dash to use here, but retaining the en dash feels intuitively more correct to me. ModernDayTrilobite (talkcontribs) 14:35, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That is a hyphen, not a dash. Hyphens aren't conventionally for linking things longer than a word. The hyphen character is generally only used as a dash when special characters are not convenient. Italian also has this distinction (trattino/lineetta). I would suggest Amici miei atto III instead. So this should be a requested move, as it is not an uncontroversial. {{replyto|SilverLocust}} (talk) 19:46, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • ProtonMail (currently a redirect to Proton Mail)  Proton Mail (move · discuss) – That's the new name. See how it is referred to on its Wikipedia article and on https://proton.me/mail FunLater (talk) 23:18, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@FunLater: This move was proposed last year, but the result was: "not moved. Too soon to tell if reliable sources have made the switch yet." (See Talk:ProtonMail/Archive 1#Requested move 27 May 2022.) So this is a potentially controversial move and would need to first be discussed. The policy for how name changes like this are considered can be found at WP:NAMECHANGES. You can open a requested move by clicking "discuss" on your request. {{replyto|SilverLocust}} (talk) 00:37, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
