''Etona'' was launched as a mission steamer, with the intention of operating regular trips between [[Morgan, South Australia|Morgan]] or [[Mannum]] and [[Renmark, South Australia|Renmark]]. While the forepart of the vessel was used a saloon, the cabin was a small saloon.
