Revision as of 14:24, 28 May 2022

Hello, everyone! While I welcome any discussion here about the nature of my edits or about how I can help anyone else in any way on Wikipedia, at the same time, within the last couple of months, several people who have posted comments for me here have not taken the time to mention the page related to the nature of the concerns they are expressing. If I can ask this of you all, I'd very much appreciate it if, going forward, anyone leaving feedback here would please specifically mention the exact page and edit about which you have come here to dialogue. And because I have always tried to live by the philosophy that we can disagree without becoming disagreeable, I'd also appreciate it if the discussions here can remain of a civil, polite, and agreeable tone. That will do more to enable me to provide the best feedback I can in response than will any other approach. I appreciate your cooperation with me on this. With that said, let the discussions continue here as needed! --Jgstokes (talk) 03:58, 27 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Editor at Talk:Joseph Smith

You wrote WP:Mormonism and I removed the WP as that made a red link - something I've done before. But I discovered something interesting, List of Christian movements. I wondered why the Latter Day Saint movement wasn't there, and then I read the lead. "A Christian movement is a theological, political, or philosophical interpretation of Christianity that is not generally represented by a specific church, sect, or denomination." Interesting and confusing. Of courses reliable sources use the term, but I can see someone arguing that it isn't a religious movement (the argument about political movements is silly). Young men

It should now read those who will turn 12 in the year. As it reads now, one can only see that the age is 12-18, but with new guidelines an 11 year old may be in young men classes, additionally, they may participate as a Deacon at 11 yrs old. 73.3.79.11 (talk) 23:28, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Area (LDS Church)

I've admired and thank you for your work on the many pages you've worked on and kept up-to-date. For Area (LDS Church) I'm ok with particulars, but it needs to be up-to-date. The Bentonville Mission, for example, has been part of the NA SE area for a few years now, has congregations in 4 states. None of TX is in NA SE. None of AZ is in the NA west area. Nunavut was listed in the wrong area. The entirety of Northern Idaho (many congregations, and covers an area larger than many eastern states) is in the NA West area. I updated boundaries and made it slightly more general as these boundaries change periodically. I only checked and updated the six North American Areas.

How particular should it be? The SW corner of Arkansas is in the NA SW area (neither revisions show it). Is it that important that it be stated as part of the area boundaries. Oklahoma has a congregation and its entire panhandle in the NA Central area. KS has congregations in the NA SE area. It's not the area boundary, but Memphis stake had a congregation in Arkansas last year, but not this year when the Helena branch was dissolved. The same could be true for a Texas stake that periodically tries to have a congregation in De Queen Arkansas. These particular examples don't directly affect whether an area is within the state, but other single-unit locations in another state may. A single stake added to the Nevada Las Vegas Mission moved all congregations and territory in AZ that were part of the NA West area into the NA SW area.

I'm personally ok if you or anyone else add particulars, but it needs to be correct and kept updated. For reference, I've been using https://classic.churchofjesuschrist.org/maps/. Let me know if there's a better source. Because Areas follow mission boundaries, it maybe good to relook at the boundaries after July mission realignments. Realignments can happen any time of the year, but in July (change of mission presidents) is when a larger portion takes place. Just my thoughts. Thanks-Dmm1169 (talk) 13:14, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Area boundaries seem to coincide with mission boundaries within the area, more than temple district or other boundaries. For example, after the Tulsa Mission office moved to Bentonville, the mission became part of the NA SE area even though it was still in the Oklahoma City Oklahoma Temple district (although a temple is under construction in Bentonville). I haven't found any area boundaries that are different than the missions it covers - other than in geographic areas with no mission coverage (ie. Middle East and North Africa). That being said, the page lists states and territories in Area, or lists temples within an area, but no list mission list within an area. -Dmm1169 (talk) 14:33, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to thank you for upholding the removal, and let you know that they did actually report me on the ANI board. You’ll see the registered name in there. I don’t know if you’ve seen what happened, but it turned into an all out assault over a violation I didn’t even make. It was disheartening and cruel.--CreecregofLife (talk) 10:02, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure it will help, but I weighed in with my two cents on the discussion in question. The report was out-of-line, and any past misconduct on your end in the past should not have been a germaine consideration for the present issue. The actual violator was the anoymous editor. So I did weigh in. Hopefully it does have some impact. And it was my pleasure to assist in this matter. --Jgstokes (talk) 19:48, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I just noticed that the user logged out somewhere in the range to revert me and give the illusion that I'd be the edit warrer. The grudge keeps going CreecregofLife (talk) 21:06, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
