Which organisation is the correct one? The variation on the name is confusing for researchers and there are no claims as to the notability of the organisation. It is explained at Wikipedia:Footnotes, and an example would be Hyde Park, Western Australia. Basically you put <References/> at the bottom of the page where you want the references to be displayed. About the AfD. The way it works here is as follows. Someone nominates the article for deletion. Just so you know, any user can nominate an article for deletion. Once the article has been nominated, a notice goes to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2006 May 11. I see that you have commented on the AfD already. Now, any user of Wikipedia can comment, and this deletion debate will be there for seven days. At the end of seven days, if there is a concensus to delete the article, the article will be deleted. Just so you know, it's not a "vote", in that the number of for and against votes will not be tallied to get the result. It really is a debate where concensus needs to be reached.

Just some advice: I have to tell you that the article, as it stands now, is almost guaranteed to be deleted. You have to realize that there are two absolutely unbreakable rules at Wikipedia, specifically Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. My feeling is that this article may not violate the second, but it violates the first pretty dramatically. If you don't see why, please read both of these. The problem here is that it doesn't matter whether or not the subject matter in your article is true or not. What does matter, and matters infinitely much, is whether another reader can verify the information that you've added. This means that some of the information is in a neutral third-party source (specifically, you cannot use the webpage of the organization you're describing). In any case, my guess is that most experienced Wikipedians will think that this article violates WP:V, and this is a big no-no.

No, once an AfD is transferred to WP:AFD/Old, it's old enough to be closed, and those are closed after a week. I say "at least" a week because sometimes these AfDs get stuck unclosed due to backlog. In this case, I was taking care of the backlog. The AfD had already gone on long enough for me to close it. And the fact that I did not participate in the debate makes it even better for me to close it, because I am a neutral, uninvolved party who is capable of looking at this objectively. If you have new material that you believe is adequate to overturn the results of this AfD, you shouldn't post it in the AfD itself because the AfD is now inactive. The best place to present your new material is in WP:DRV, but only if the new material is sufficient enough, in your opinion, to overturn the results of the AfD. You should read WP:DRV very carefully before listing something, because WP:DRV is usually about process and whether I violated process when I closed the AfD. Your new information is unlikely to prove that I broke process, and the information might also be insufficient to get your article undeleted, but if you think it will, you can always try. :-) However, if you do so, I must ask that you let me know so I can weigh in and not feel like I'm being backstabbed. Alternatively, you can tell me what your new information is, and I'll give you my opinion on whether this new material will likely overturn the results of the AfD. "Google hits" refers to the number of entries the term shows up when you do a search for it on Google. "Google ranking" might refer to Google PageRank, which shows how many pages link to it: the higher the number, the higher the rank, and the higher the rank, the earlier it shows up on a Google Search. True Torah Jews is a non-profit organization formed by a group of religious Orthodox Jews dedicated to spreading its view that the ideology of Zionism is in opposition to the teachings of traditional Judaism^[1].

It opposes both the ideology of Zionism and the creation of a Jewish state (the nation of Israel) before the coming of the moshiach. Therefore, the NPO works to 1) inform the world that it views Israel as not a Jewish state, but as a Zionist state, 2) to change references to Israel in media and popular culture from "Jewish state" to "Zionist state", 3) to inform the philanthropic public that giving to Israel is giving to Zionism rather than Judaism, 4) to inform Jews themselves about rabbinical opposition to Zionism as an ideology.

The group is not affiliated with any groups or coalition, but is rather a grassroots movement within the orthodox Jewish community that enjoys significant support among anti-Zionist orthodox Jews.^[2].

Its outreach efforts include a web site [1], a weekly newsletter called Parsha Pearls that has a weekly lesson from the torah that focuses on Jews in exile [2], and it issues newsletters on special occasions (e.g. on the Israeli Independence Day) [3]. The group also takes out ads in the leading American newspapers and on leading radio stations and talk shows with a significant Jewish audience expressing the above beliefs and messages. Finally, it puts out press releases on the position of True Torah Jews on current events.

The web site of the True Torah Jews receives many many hits daily, In fact in the mouth of July 2006 alone the site had over 104,127 pages visited and 75,134 unique visitors with a total of 1,831,950 hits. ^[3] (Although it’s not the most hits a website can receive, and other websites – about different things – receive more hits, however given the limited amount of people interested in this subject – in respect to other subjects – and the amount of hits the website receives, it is percentage wise comparable to the amount of hits a well visited website of any subject should receive.) Consequently of the above, the TTJ makes quite an uproar with far reaching results since the TTJ has no other goal – as for example selling an item – besides educating people, the meare fact that a significant amount of people visit and read the material on the site is accomplishing the goal.

In addition, some mainstream Jewish press has commented on the movement True Torah Jews. For example both, “Der Yid” and “Der Blatt” (The official newspapers of the two satmar factions the Aron’s and Zalman’s) have written about the TTJ group and its activities in its article on the Israeli elections ^[4].

Certainly feel free to add yourself to the list of members of WikiProject Judaism, and to use the Userbox. It is simply something of a "statement of commitment" to WikiProject Judaism, and of a desire to see the Jewish articles in good order. It is not any kind of elite club. Many WikiProjects have similar lists.

Self-sacrifice under Jewish law has a lot of good content, but the language and organization could use some work. Good encyclopedia writing is not a simple thing. It needs, among other things: organization, clarity, good vocabulary (but not above the reach of most readers), good grammar, and references. I will go through it and see what I can do. Hi. Can you print a pronunciation thingie of guilloche (which is a nice article). It's always bugged me, because my watch has a beautiful example, and I want to show it off and my exquisite knowledge of design, but I can't pronounce the damn thing.

Can you give a looksee over the first graf of religious views of suicide? The sentence on the cardinal sins seems backwards.

Wikis Take Manhattan

WHAT Wikis Take Manhattan is a scavenger hunt and free content photography contest aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and StreetsWiki articles covering sites and street features in Manhattan and across the five boroughs of New York City.

LAST YEAR'S EVENT

Wikipedia:Wikipedia Takes Manhattan/Fall 2008 (a description of the results, and the uploading party)
Commons:Wikis Take Manhattan (our cool team galleries)
Streetfilms: Wikis Take Manhattan (our awesome video)

WINNINGS? The first prize winning team members will get Eye-Fi Share cards, which automatically upload photos from your camera to your computer and to sites like Flickr. And there will also be cool prizes for other top scorers.

WHEN The hunt will take place Saturday, October 10th from 1:00pm to 6:30pm, followed by prizes and celebration.

WHO All Wikipedians and non-Wikipedians are invited to participate in team of up to three (no special knowledge is required at all, just a digital camera and a love of the city). Bring a friend (or two)!

REGISTER The proper place to register your team is here. It's also perfectly possible to register on the day of when you get there, but it will be slightly easier for us if you register beforehand.

WHERE Participants can begin the hunt from either of two locations: one at Columbia University (at the sundial on college walk) and one at The Open Planning Project's fantastic new event space nestled between Chinatown and SoHo. Everyone will end at The Open Planning Project:

National Archives ExtravaSCANza

You are invited to join us for the MoMA Art+Feminism edit-a-thon on Saturday, to support the expansion of Wikipedia's coverage of women in the arts.

We encourage both people new to Wikipedia, and people who have experience editing online, or have joined us for past edit-a-thon events.

This is by far our biggest event of the year (over 200 participants in the last edition), and every extra hand counts, so please join and volunteer to help us engage new communities!

On Saturday April 30, 2016, in conjunction with a global campaign, the Guggenheim will host its fourth Wikipedia edit-a-thon — or, #guggathon — to enhance Wikipedia's coverage of modern and contemporary artists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and to counter geocultural systemic bias on Wikipedia.

The Guggenheim aims to further the goals of the Guggenheim UBS MAP Global Art Initiative, and build on the model of campaigns like the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Guggenheim: Women in Architecture, Wikipedia Asian Month, and Art+Feminism.

New and experienced editors are welcome. The event will include a training session for participants who are new to Wikipedia and Wikipedia specialists will be on hand to provide basic instruction and editing support.

Join us for a full Sunday of social Wikipedia editing at the Center for Jewish History (drop-in any time!), during which we will create, update, and improve Wikipedia articles pertaining to Women in Jewish History.

All are invited, with no specialized knowledge of the subject or Wikipedia editing experience required.

Expanding coverage of Jewish women on Wikipedia makes these women and their creations discoverable, addresses the gender bias on Wikipedia in a positive way, and works to correct imbalances archival collecting practice and institutional projects that have historically silenced women's narratives.

A training session on editing Wikipedia will be held at 12:30 pm. Experienced Wikipedians will be on-hand to assist throughout the day. Please bring your laptop and power cord; we will have library resources, WiFi, and a list of suggested topics on hand.

Featuring an opening Artists' Panel at 10am, with Sol Aramendi, Sharon Lee De La Cruz, and Marisa Morán Jahn, to be moderated by Rocío Aranda-Alvarado, curator at El Museo del Barrio.

The Museum of Modern Art and Fundacion Cisneros/Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros are uniting with international allies to focus on the lives and works of Latin American artists, architects and designers. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

On Saturday December 3, 2016, in conjunction with a global campaign, the Guggenheim will host its fifth Wikipedia edit-a-thon—or, #guggathon—to enhance Wikipedia's coverage of modern and contemporary artists from Greater China. The event will cap off Wikipedia Asian Month, an online campaign dedicated to augmenting Asian content on Wikipedia throughout November.

New and experienced editors are welcome. The event will include a training session for participants who are new to Wikipedia, and Wikipedia specialists will be on hand to provide basic instruction and editing support. Editors are invited to view the exhibition Tales of Our Time following the event.

The Guggenheim aims to raise awareness of the artists featured in the Tales of Our Time exhibition supported by The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Chinese Art Initiative, and build on the model of campaigns like the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Guggenheim: Women in Architecture, Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Guggenheim: Contemporary Art of the Middle East and North Africa, and Art+Feminism.

On the last Sunday of every month, the Boardroom at Ace Hotel New York hosts Action Equals History — a unique opportunity for New Yorkers to learn hands-on in a technology training/workshop session about the mechanics, practices and benefits of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia projects. This is an opportunity for all to gather, share and work collectively towards a more robust account of history.

The event is a key marker too of The Metropolitan Museum of Art's first Wikimedian-in-Residence program, with resident Richard Knipel (User:Pharos), along with Wikimedia NYC. Join us for an evening of social Wikipedia editing at the Museum of Modern Art Library's third annual Wiki Loves Pride Edit-a-thon, during which we will create, update, and improve Wikipedia articles pertaining to LGBT art, culture and history.

All are invited, with no specialized knowledge of the subject or Wikipedia editing experience required.

Themes for this event include art related to HIV/AIDS activism and on LGBTQ artists of the African Diaspora as part of the Black Lunch Table project.

The Wikipedia Asian Month Edit-a-thon @ The Met will be the Metropolitan Museum of Art's second edit-a-thon, hosted on Sunday November 19, 2017 in the Bonnie Sacerdote Classroom, Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education (81st Street entrance) at The Met Fifth Avenue in New York City.

Following the first Met edit-a-thon in May 2017, the museum is excited to work with Wikipedia Asian Month for the potential to seed new articles about Asian artworks, artwork types, and art traditions, from any part of Asia. These can be illustrated with thousands of its recently-released images of public domain artworks available for Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons from the museum’s collection spanning 5,000 years of art. The event is an opportunity for Wikimedia communities to engage The Met's diverse Asian collections onsite and remotely.

Hello, Bloger. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

By removing the junk from the sentences and cleaning it up. You're clearly here to push a POV, as evidenced by your repeatedly creating nonsense articles like "True Torah Jews" and your edits on this article. I'm warning you now to stop it. You are an administrator you obviously have the power to threaten others and I’m powerless to do anything about it.

But since you are making accusations, I just want to point out that the article – True Torah Jews – was the first article I tried putting on Wikipedia, and have since made almost 1,000 edits including creating 16 new pages. in numerous subjects.

So, you can throw your weight around and threaten others, doesn’t change the fact that you are probably guilty of what you accuse me and therefore insist on deleting.

I do not hide the fact about my opinion on the subject. But for the sake of making the page “encyclopedia worthy”, I fell that the “other side” souled be presented as well. Just to give everyone the opportunity to have the whole picture.

The entire article is pretty “one-sided” and understandably so, but this doesn’t mean that it has to be entirely biased.

And the website I linked isn’t a "source" for information that is new, just happens to be that the affidavits are available on that site for all to read and study, outer sites have a pay-wall.

In addition, your “problem” with the links keep on changing, first, they were not worthy because they were not filed. After I pointed out they were you came up with some other lame excuse, then it was that it’s not written properly, and now you are threatening me.

I don’t think it’s fair, I’ve contributed to Wikipedia enough to be given the minimum respect and not be threatened and be labeled by one – and my first - article years ago.

If you fell I’m unreasonable, please refer this to a third party in administration.

I updated the page as things changed. At the time they accrued. There was no “consensus version” since things kept on changing in the real world. How do you propose things be added to a page as things change in the real world if changing an article is “going against the consensus version”?

The face is just the opposite. The article was fine before “you” arrived. Look at the history of the page. You also deleted stuff that was in the article for several years.

The fact that you think I just changed the page from its status que shows that or you didn’t really look into my edits, don’t know the topic or that you are indeed biased.

You seem to not differentiate between “having an opinion” and going against POV policy. One can have an opinion and shouldn’t be forbidden from editing. Why do you propose editors do edits if the subject is of no interest to them?

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Bloger. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Thursday April 4 and Friday April 5: Translat-a-thon NYC 2019 @ LaGuardia Community College

Translat-a-thon NYC 2019 @ LaGuardia Community College is hosting the second annual Wikipedia Translatathon! At this event on Thursday evening and during the day Friday this week, anyone from the public is invited to LaGuardia to join students, professors, and CUNY faculty in translating Wikipedia articles among any languages which attendees understand. Themes for this event include public health and the history of New York City.

New York City has a large immigrant population and great diversity of speakers of various languages. Among all schools in New York City, LaGuardia has the highest percentage of immigrant students, the highest percentage of students who speak a language other than English as their first language, and the greatest representation of language diversity. It is a strength of LaGuardia that it can present "Wikipedia translatathons", which are Wikipedia translation events.
