Samuel Martins Torres Santiago Mira (born July 17, 1979), better known by his stage name Sam the Kid (STK), is a Portuguese rapper and producer from Lisbon, Portugal.

Early life and music career

Sam the Kid's music was primarily influenced by 93 'til Infinity (1993).[citation needed] Sam the Kid's music is noted for a creative and extensive use on sampling, using his primary producing equipment, the MPC. 1n 1994, after leaving secondary school Escola Secundária D. Dinis in Lisbon, at 15 year's old, Mire established his first group, "Official Nasty" with school-friends Daddy-O-Pop, 2 Much and Sheriff, appearing in three concerts before dissolving in 1996, though they still perform informally in 2004/2005.[1][2][3][4][5]

Mira released his first album, Entre(tanto) in 1999, followed buy his second album, Sobre(tudo)in 2001 which attracted the attention of then recently created Loop Recordings, which offered him a contract. It was his third album, released in 2002, an instrumental album called Beats Vol. 1: Amor, that began to notice a significant level of success, being considered by fans and critics to be one of the greatest Portuguese releases of the year. 2002 proved to be an important and active period for Portuguese hip-hop, and Sam the Kid was one of the most significant artists that year, joining names such as Mind da Gap, Bullet, Chullage, Micro and Valete. In 2005, Sam established a group called MadiVison, a one-off project which included Kacetado, Tekilla and DJ Link, they released an album in 2005. In 2009, Sam released a live concert album with his father Napoleão Mira (known as Viriato Ventura). In 2010, Sam released a 2nd Instrumental album.

On 13 June 2016, Sam established a new project called TV Chelas, a YouTube platform to distribute his work. The channel publishes content such as uncompleted music by Sam and other artists, video clips, podcasts, interviews. acappellas, instrumentals, remixes and archive material.

In 2017 and 2018, Sam plans to release a follow-up to Beats Vol 1: Amor, a joint album with Mundo Segundo (with production by DJ Guze and DJ Cruzfader) and also plans to re-release Pratica(mente).[6][7]

Orelha Negra

They have released 2 studio albums, 1 live album and 3 mixtapes, with a 3rd studio album set to release on 15 September 2017.[8]
