Living people

Greetings. Yobot used to replace Category:Year of birth missing with Category:Year of birth missing (living people) if article has Category:Living people. Do you do this too already? Do you know if there is a bot doing this? Yobot used to do it but it was a long time ago. -- Magioladitis (talk) 10:52, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This may be extended to more categories. Example. This is not done by AWB's general fixes. I found 250 pages. -- Magioladitis (talk) 11:03, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Magioladitis: I have the list of my bot tasks on User:BattyBot, and this isn't one of them. I haven't been keeping up with other people's bot tasks. Would this be a simple addition to AWB general fixes? GoingBatty (talk) 03:40, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Grep

Hi! FYI, grep is working. At least for me. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 16:29, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week seeking nominations (and a new facilitator)

The Editor of the Week initiative has been recognizing editors since 2013 for their hard work and dedication. Editing Wikipedia can be disheartening and tedious at times; the weekly Editor of the Week award lets its recipients know that their positive behaviour and collaborative spirit is appreciated. The response from the honorees has been enthusiastic and thankful.

The list of nominees is running short, and so new nominations are needed for consideration. Have you come across someone in your editing circle who deserves a pat on the back for improving article prose regularly, making it easier to understand? Or perhaps someone has stepped in to mediate a contentious dispute, and did an excellent job. Do you know someone who hasn't received many accolades and is deserving of greater renown? Is there an editor who does lots of little tasks well, such as cleaning up citations?

Please help us thank editors who display sustained patterns of excellence, working tirelessly in the background out of the spotlight, by submitting your nomination for Editor of the Week today!

In addition, the WikiProject is seeking a new facilitator/coordinator to handle the logistics of the award. Please contact L235 if you are interested in helping with the logistics of running the award in any capacity. Remove your name from here to unsubscribe from further EotW-related messages. Why did you think this was not notable? Should it be merged? Bearian (talk) 19:35, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Bearian: It was User:Mannanan51 who wondered if the election is notable by adding the {{notability}} tag in this edit from August 2015. I simply updated the tag so it links to Wikipedia's notability guideline for events (instead of the general notability guideline) so interested editors like you can either improve the article and remove the tag or submit it for deletion. Thanks, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 19:42, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year, GoingBatty!

   Send New Year cheer by adding {{subst:Happy New Year fireworks}} to user talk pages.

Definition of dead end

Hi, I was surprised to see a dead end tag being removed from a page wihout any meaningful links. Surely red links do not count as a solution to a dead end? Unless I missed a true blue link of course. --HyperGaruda (talk) 00:03, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@HyperGaruda: Thanks for letting me know. I've reported the issue to the AWB developers. GoingBatty (talk) 00:12, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Kayton

I think you are right about him. He was well known in patent lawyer circles in the late 1960s and early 1970s, but not after that. PRG isn't notable at all. PraeceptorIP (talk) 18:27, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@PraeceptorIP: Thanks for the feedback on Irving Kayton and Patent Resources Group. My goal in expanding the {{notability}} tags on thousands of articles is so that the tag will link to the appropriate notability guideline to make it easier for editors such as yourself (who are more knowledgeable than I) to decide whether to improve the articles or send them to WP:AFD. Thanks, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 18:39, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message, sorry about that, I've fixed it. Edward (talk) 08:59, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Edward: Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 13:34, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

BattyBot 34

Are you currently running BattyBot 34? Apparently not, as BattyBot says the last run was February 2016. I ask because my Bot1058 task 3 work queue has unexpectedly dried up (it works to clear Category:Unsynchronized disambiguation talk pages, which is empty). I last ran that bot on December 8, and usually I've seen the category fill up with several pages every day. wbm1058 (talk) 16:04, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I see the category is currently populated by 7 pages. Will watch to see who fixes these. Until recently, these were not fixed until I fixed them.
@Wbm1058:  Doing... BattyBot tasks 34 and 40 now. GoingBatty (talk) 16:32, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Wbm1058:  Done, and BattyBot didn't impact the category at all - it specifically skips redirect pages. Two of the pages were fixed by someone else. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 23:04, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
OK thanks, then there is no overlap in what we patrol. It appears that perhaps no one person is fixing this. Maybe some who are frequent dab creators have realized they were skipping this step and are doing it now. wbm1058 (talk) 13:54, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
