Summary' The story Ani Etgabaer or, I will overcome in English, is a hebrew book by Devorah Omer. The books plot line follows the path of a young girl with Cerebral Palsy, Gila, as she grows up. It shows her struggles through childhood, adolescents, and beyond. CHAPTER BREAKDOWN
Gilas mother feels something is wrong with her newborn child. The father doesn't believe so. As time passes on though it becomes evident that there little girl, Gila, is different. She is seeminlgy falling behind developmentally. Gila is taken to the dr who diagnoses her with cerebral Palsy. Her parents will continue to take her to many Drs but they can't help her. Gila grows to hate the drs (except for one named dr ran)and she becomes very temperamental. Gila can't move her hands or feet so well, but she has the mind of a regular girl. Other children are at first ok with this, but uneducated parents keep their children away from GIla, they fear here condition may be contagious. Her abandonmeant by all but her brother-who gets into fights on her behalf- (and a friend who she finds out was simply being nice to her) leaves her bitter. She takes out her anger on her parents (and a cat and a doll) and tries to make their lives miserable in order to make hers a little better. Every time she gets into a school she is thrown out since they siply can't handle her needs and that of all the other children. Once they put on a peseach play and she was gonna play Pharaoh but she breaks done and once more gets kicked out. Finally she meets a teacher named Morah Rifka. Mora Rifka is at first antogizing but as time passes the two grow close and she insinsct one teaching gila throughout highschool She likes to grow to movies to esccape reality but eventually she begins to make real friends.. She also meets a guy named Yoram, and she likes him a lot. They will later go out but she breaks up wiht him since she realizes its hard for him to keep up with her disabilities. Gila makes friends with a girl named miri. Meeris family donest like her. Mirri has the same disaabilty as gila. Mirri encourages to Gila writes poems. Gilas grandmother dies and her dad has a heartattack when gila is already almost 20. She takes a job tutoring because of the help of Mora Rifka and (before even mora rifka, Dr Ran) she realized her true potential as an incredibly intelligent person with lots to prove. Then her friend mirri decided to get married to a man also with cerebral palsy. Miracoulusly they have an nomrla child. Gila then says she will get a job as a psycholigist and teach young kids with cerebral palsy how to overcome their struggles just like her.
