Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 78.182.130.19 (talk) at 12:34, 27 November 2024 (Contested technical requests). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."

  • To list a technical request: edit the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
    {{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}

    This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
  • If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
  • If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

  • Israel–Hezbollah conflict (2023–present) (currently a redirect to Israel–Hezbollah conflict (2023–2024))  2024 Lebanon war (currently a redirect instead to Israeli invasion of Lebanon (2024–present)) (move · discuss) – The war is called such by all sources such as BBC, CNN, Al Monitor, etc. I would’ve included the sources but I wanted to avoid elongating this request, simply search them up on google. And regarding the 1-year of conflict preceding the escalation to a full-scale war since september 23, I think we could either split it into an article called the “Prelude to the 2024 Lebanon war” or perhaps “Israel-Hezbollah clashes (2023–2024)”, or we could simply write in the info box of the war that the period from october 7, 2023 to september 23, 2024 was a period of low level clashes, and the period from september 23, 2024 until present (or november 27 considering the ceasefire) was the main phase of the war. Almost 4000 died in total and most of them since September 23’s beginning of escalation, this was no “conflict” and all serious news sources agree. 78.182.130.19 (talk) 12:34, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Kabaddi World Cup (standard style)  Kabaddi World Cup (move · discuss) – This the only official world cup authorised by the international federation of the sport. The others are unofficial versions hosted in unofficial capacities. There should be a separate disambiguation page for the others. Kabaddi World Cup should feature the actual World Cup. OCDD (talk)
Primary topic grabs are, by definition, not uncontroversial. 162 etc. (talk) 21:00, 23 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All three listed topics are international competitions and are presumably considered official by those who organise them. The current title is already ambiguous, since there are two Kabaddi World Cups that are standard style – the other one being the World Cup Kabaddi (for which I just opened an RM). I suggest Kabaddi World Cup (standard style) should be moved to Kabaddi World Cup (International Kabaddi Federation). — BarrelProof (talk) 21:02, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article appears to be about the name change, with regard to WP:NAMECHANGE, we look for coverage about the organisation that uses the new name. Bobby Cohn (talk) 19:42, 25 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ModernDaySlavery This is a WP:NATURAL disambiguation, which is generally preferred over WP:PARENTHETICAL and should thus probably remain as it is right now (or subject to a full RM discussion). It also looks like you tried to unilaterally move this a few days ago and it was reverted. Raladic (talk) 00:12, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ModernDaySlavery Not inherently uncontentious, so RMTR isn't the right place. Suggest a full WP:RM to seek other editors input for consensus. In fact it appears you tried to move these pages yourself a few days ago and it was reverted] due to the potentially contentious nature of an undiscussed move. Raladic (talk) 00:15, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mach61 Based on the history of prior RMs at the title, it seems potentially contentious, as well as guidelines at WP:PLACEDAB mentioning that larger subdivisions or historical regions usually use parenthetical disambiguation. Recommend full RM. Raladic (talk) 04:48, 27 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
