Replace category with template

Please replace

[[Category:Wikipedia fully protected redirects]]

with

{{Rcat shell|
{{R fully protected}}
}}

on the 558 pages currently listed at Category talk:Fully protected redirects.

As a bonus, there may be a few pages with an existing "R from" or similar template. In these cases it would be nice to wrap such templates within the Rcat shell. – Fayenatic London 18:52, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

that would require an admin with AWB. —usernamekiran (talk) 21:04, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like JJMC89 has done a subset. Btw @Fayenatic london: {{R fully protected}} is redundant in a {{R shell}}, per: When appropriate, protection levels are automatically sensed, described and categorized. For example, UTC is showing duplicate paragraphs in the shell; it needs only {{R from initialism}} and not {{R fully protected}} 73.93.5.246 (talk) 21:33, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You are right, thanks. I have edited UTC accordingly.
So, in cases where there is another "R from" or similar template, that only needs an Rcat shell wrapper, as that will then generate the protection category. – Fayenatic London 21:41, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
An {{R cat shell}} on its own produces a message basically saying "please add a redirect category" and enters it into Category:Miscellaneous redirects, which is a maintenance category for redirects only using {{R cat shell}}. The template should never be used on its own. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 12:50, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Skarmory, @Fayenatic london, you can use {{R tagged automatically}} as a placeholder rcat. — Qwerfjkltalk 18:49, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Actually not sure if that rcat is finished. Might need some fixing beforehand. — Qwerfjkltalk 18:51, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good to note, I guess with that you could skip the {{R fully protected}} if you wanted to. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 19:38, 21 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

URL change of newspaper archive

The newspaper archive of Singapore, NewspaperSG has moved its newspaper archive url from eresources.nlb.gov.sg/newspapers/Digitised/Article/straitstimes19331015.2.83 to eresources.nlb.gov.sg/newspapers/digitised/articles/straitstimes19331015.2.83 . You can use the first three references from Lim Yong Liang as an example. While the case change does not affect the url, the introduction of a s break the url. This should be a quick and easy change. Appreciate if anyone can assist with this. Thanks. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 02:33, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

3,132 hits is a lot for AWB. Might need a WP:BOTREQ WP:URLREQ. –Novem Linguae (talk) 02:38, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, here's a better query: 2,833Novem Linguae (talk) 03:16, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Novem Linguae as per below, will bring it up at the other venue. Thanks. Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 03:28, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Quick category cleanup

If someone could run the regex

  • \[\[Category:Wikipedia lists of recognized content.*\n → Nothing

On all Wikipedia-namespace pages in Category:Wikipedia lists of recognized content, that would be great.

The category is now automatically added via transclusion. This will affect 292 pages. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 09:44, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Headbomb wouldn't this be a cosmetic edit? Frostly (talk) 20:35, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Technically yes, in some/most cases [2] (~204), no in others [3] (~88). But it's something that's considered editor-hostile enough (see case c) to be worth fixing. I could take care of it by AWB, but I'm trying to avoid mindlessly mashing save 292 times over an hour. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 22:32, 25 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

CfD cleanup

Remove all 47 redirects in Category:ISIRI standards before the category is merged to Category:Standards of Iran, as decided in Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2023_June_11#Category:ISIRI_standards. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 00:27, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This may be a small job – until recently Daughter of the Bride was a redirect to the 1997 short film article Family Video Diaries: Daughter of the Bride. However, I just moved the article on the 2023 film with that title to the base title. Could someone with AWB please check to see if there are any article links currently going to Daughter of the Bride that should be changed to Family Video Diaries: Daughter of the Bride? Thanks. --IJBall (contribstalk) 17:57, 2 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@IJBall: There are only 5 direct incoming links. I'm not sure which of these, need a link cleanup, so you might want to look at these once.
CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {CX}) 17:01, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@CX Zoom: If I had to guess, it's just the fourth link – the others all definitely should go to the 2023 film. --IJBall (contribstalk) 17:54, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unsupported parameter removal in 300+ category talk pages

Resolved

A recent update to Template:WPMILHIST to use an updated version of WPBannerMeta has left 300+ category talk pages with the same unsupported parameter value: the parameter |1=CAT is no longer supported or needed, since the template now knows it is on a category page. If someone could remove the pipe, "CAT", and the line break following, like this, I would appreciate it. The list of pages is here. Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:42, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind; I found a workaround. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:14, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Most [Country] at the [year] [Winter/Summer] Olympics articles have two bold links in the lead which do not contain the full title. I've manually done Algeria and the Philippines, though there are many more I'm aware of. The bolding should be removed from these links per WP:LEAD. ~UN6892 tc 14:23, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Example diff. Category:Nations at the Summer Olympics by year and Category:Nations at the Winter Olympics by year might be good categories to use to get a list of articles to check. –Novem Linguae (talk) 14:37, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Are we de-bolding in cases where there's only one item bolded (e.g., Argentina at the 1948 Summer Olympics)? If so, (''')(?=(.*)\. ) works as a regex to remove all bolding on a line that later contains a period followed by a space. Haven't tested this super thoroughly, but it seems like it should do what we want to do (and hopefully not more). AviationFreak💬 20:26, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, is there any way to specifically deal with bolded links in the lead? ~UN6892 tc 22:00, 17 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Username6892, I've done some more with this and I think using '''(\[\[(.*?)\]\])'''(?=(.*)\. ) should work (see a testcase here). This removes the bolding from all bolded links whose lines contain a period followed by a space (i.e., this should only remove bolded links on lines with prose). Using the Replace feature of AWB/regex, we can keep the links themselves without the bolding. I have yet to try this "in the field" besides the regexr link above. I could do some of this, but there are a lot of articles needing treatment and I'd want to make an account specifically for this kind of mass semi-automated work so as to not skew my contribs. Do you think this approach would work? Note that it would also remove bolding from lede links where only one link is present (e.g., Argentina at the 1948 Summer Olympics). AviationFreak💬 18:46, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@AviationFreak: I tried Argentina at the 1948 Summer Olympics as a testcase and a similar result was not found. Would this mean that said regex would not remove bolding? ~UN6892 tc 19:00, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, I could've sworn the bolding in the Argentine article was a link when I mentioned it earlier, but the page history shows that is incorrect. The regex only removes the bolding from bolded links, and won't remove it for non-links. Removing the "\[\[" and "\]\]" from the regex should change this so it doesn't care about whether the bolded item is a link, if that's what we want. AviationFreak💬 19:12, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@AviationFreak: My main issue is specifically regarding the bolded links, so I think the regex is good as-is. The only issue I can see possibly arising at the moment is if a link to another article is placed for the entirety of the bolded title, though I know of no articles where such a link exists. ~UN6892 tc 19:27, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Username6892: I've requested permission for an alt account to use AWB; I'll make some test edits when (if) it's approved. Hopefully I won't run into any issues, and if I do hopefully they're quickable fixable. Please let me know if you plan on making lots of these edits as well so we can coordinate which cats we're each doing so as to not overlap too much & keep things efficient. AviationFreak💬 20:17, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have no intention of making any more of these edits because of how tedious they are. ~UN6892 tc 01:39, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've done a few of these, and the regex seems to be pretty effective when used as an "advanced rule" in AWB applied twice. I think this could be improved significantly by hiding templates from the regex, and I would be reasonably comfortable doing this fully automated if that were to happen (I don't see where to enable that, though). I suppose that would need to go through the bot request area, but I'm not positive as I've not done anything like this before. The edits are indeed very tedious. AviationFreak💬 02:53, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to go the automation route, install User:Enterprisey/easy-brfa.js, file a WP:BRFA, then request your alt account to be switched to the "enabledbots" part of Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPageJSON (via a request at WP:PERM/AWB). That last part will enable a bot tab in AWB that will let you do fully automated editing. Hope this helps. –Novem Linguae (talk) 07:12, 21 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
