If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
![]() | If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests
Uncontroversial technical requests
- Muhammad Hussain Janjua (currently a redirect to Muhammad Hussain (soldier)) → Muhammad Hussain (soldier) (move · discuss) – Per refs, ELs. "Janjua" is not part of the name. Gotitbro (talk) 14:17, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
- Asynchronous Connection-Less (currently a redirect to Asynchronous connection-oriented logical transport) → Asynchronous Connection-oriented Logical transport (move · discuss) – ACL is a formally defined Bluetooth concept defined in the Bluetooth core specification (see bluetooth.com). It has always stood for Asynchronous Connection-oriented Logical transport and the current page title is therefore incorrect. Bluetooth SIG mdw (talk) 13:45, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hydro-Québec's electricity transmission system → Quebec Interconnection (currently a redirect back to Hydro-Québec's electricity transmission system) (move · discuss) – WP:COMMONNAME and more consistent with other articles about electrical grid interconnections PhotographyEdits (talk) 13:41, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
- 183rd Infantry Division (Wehrmacht) → 183rd Infantry Division (currently a redirect instead to 183rd Division) (move · discuss) – Unnecessary disambiguation; current target is the unit that this unit was reformed into. BilledMammal (talk) 04:02, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
- Bumi Serpong Damai (currently a redirect to BSD City) → BSD City (move · discuss) – The official name of the township is changed (and marketed) as BSD City by the developer, Sinarmas Land Ramsnet (talk) 02:08, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
- Scottish Women's Football League First Division Cup (currently a redirect to Scottish Women's Football League Cup) → Scottish Women's Football League Cup (move · discuss) – Hi - the Scottish Women's Football association has reverted to the "League Cup" name (the Cup's earlier name), since 2020. See the current season on its website, "Scottish Women's Football League Cup: 2022 Season". The "SWFL First Division" was discontinued in 2019 (effectively replaced by the "SWF Championship"). Further details are already contained in the relevant articles. Thank you! Demokra (talk) 00:43, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
- Lahti-Kotkan satama commuter rail (currently a redirect to VR commuter rail) → VR commuter rail (move · discuss) – The actual name of said commuter rail system is "VR commuter rail", the current name "Lahti-Kotkan satama commuter rail" refers to only one of its seven services. However, VR commuter rail has previously redirected to another, mostly separate system called Helsinki commuter rail which is an outdated redirection and nowadays somewhat incorrect. TLDR: "VR commuter rail" should be the name of a page currently titled "Lahti-Kotkan satama commuter rail". Tavarajuna (talk) 15:38, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

- Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Earth (16th nomination) → Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Earth (13th nomination) (restricted by the titleblacklist, which page movers can override) (move · discuss) – Scottywong (pinged) has salted the 13th nomination (along with the 14th (typo edited) and 15th) under the guise of "protecting the encyclopedia from unfunny jokes". While I would agree that Earth AfDs are not funny, "mov[ing] to correct nomination number" - as pythoncoder argued in his granted request - is more important than the intended "protection". Why not move it to the correct number, leaving no gaps? NotReallySoroka (talk) 06:55, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
- I was going to decline this as an obvious waste of RM/TR's time, but I see that the 20th→12th request was actioned. Arguing to revert that would also be a waste of time, so I won't, but I'll just say, I cannot think of something less related to building an encyclopedia than the numbering of April Fools' AfDs for Earth. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 08:08, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
Contested technical requests
- Spanish rice (currently a redirect to Mexican rice) → Mexican rice (move · discuss) – Mexican rice is the more known and accurate name, since the dish is a mexican rice dish and not a spanish one. Kaidros (talk) 16:06, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
- That sounds like a good argument to put forth as a rationale, preferably with some evidence, but not something completely obvious and uncontroversial. I suggest that a discussion is needed. A merge in the other direction was discussed and performed in 2009. By the way, the Google Ngram viewer does not support the idea that "Mexican rice" is more common that "Spanish rice". — BarrelProof (talk) 22:02, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
