Rollback

User:HurricaneEdgar

I help to remove vandalism or disruptive edit. Thank you :) HurricaneEdgar 15:13, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am a pending changes reviewer and come across vandalism quite frequently. I would like rollback rights to revert obvious vandalism and other non-constructive edits. I also want to use Huggle. I have read and understood WP:ROLLBACKUSE.--Umakant Bhalerao (talk) 18:23, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:DigitalChutney

Hi, I have been reverting quite a lot of vandalism recently, firstly using undo, then Twinkle and more recently, RedWarn. However, as good as these tools are, the automatic functions do not work when used on an iPad, which I use for a good proportion of my edits. When looking for alternatives, I read that SW Viewer is optimised for mobile, so feel this may be useful when editing using an iPad. However, a requirement to use the tool is Rollback, hence this request. I also feel that the permission would be useful when editing using my PC, as it will give me the option to use other tools such as Huggle, along with speeding up existing tools. Thanks very much, DigitalChutney (talk) 21:05, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Poppified

I am one among the users who always try to fight vandalism whenever I spot it. My main focus is on football related articles and has succesfully protected many pages from vandalism after requesting for page protection. I am well aware of how to deal with vandalist users as I clearly know all the level of warnings. I have been also awarded some barnstars for my anti vandalsim work.Recently, I also teamed up with other users to fight extreme vandalism happened in Indian football related pages and succesfully protected some of them. So I beleive I will be granted rollback rights as it will help me more to fighting vandalism.Thankyou Poppified talk 14:48, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Poppified, and thanks for volunteering. I see that you are currently participating in the Counter-Vandalism Unit Academy training at User:Pahunkat/CVUA/Poppified. When you complete the CVUA training, please take some time to apply the information you learned from the course to patrol recent changes with the anti-vandalism tools of your choice, and then reapply for the rollback permission. Oshwah gave some helpful advice on your talk page at Special:Diff/1006364605, which I endorse.  Not done for now, but I hope to see you here again in the future. — Newslinger talk 17:19, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ilovecats516, and thanks for volunteering. I see that you've done some counter-vandalism work between 8–10 February using the both the "undo" feature and RedWarn, although you are still a little bit short from the minimum requirement of 200 mainspace edits on Wikipedia. Here are some of my recommendations:
  • Please remember to send a user warning template to the editor when you revert an inappropriate edit – RedWarn does this automatically, but when using the "undo" feature, you need to do this manually (or semi-automatically with Twinkle).
  • Editors who participate in counter-vandalism are expected to be accountable for their actions by retaining a history of their user talk page messages. Instead of deleting your user talk page messages (e.g. Special:Diff/1005699376), please retain them on the page and archive them either manually or automatically. The friendly editors at the Teahouse can help you set up automatic archiving if you are unfamiliar with how to do this.
  • You may be interested in signing up for the Counter-Vandalism Unit Academy training course.
Please practice reverting and reporting vandalism for about a month before reapplying for this permission.  Not done for now, but I hope to see you here again in the future. — Newslinger talk 17:40, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Ulubatli Hasan

Greetings, I am Requesting this permission because I am active in fighting vandalism and have a good understanding of vandalism..... I'm editor since April 2020 and have rollback on urwiki since May 2020. I started editing enwiki in august 2020 and since I've editing here regularly. Plus, I don't have any history of edit warring. With this flag it will be easier for me to revert vandalism. Hasan (talk) 09:09, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ulubatli Hasan, and thanks for volunteering. While you have built up a strong track record on the Urdu Wikipedia, we usually want to see some focused counter-vandalism work on the English Wikipedia before granting the rollback permission. Currently, your list of undos is limited, and you have not yet made significant use of tools such as RedWarn or Twinkle to revert vandalism. Since Twinkle already offers one-click rollbacks, the main purpose of the rollback permission is to grant access to advanced counter-vandalism tools such as Huggle, and we want to see some more experience before offering this access.  Not done for now, but if you are interested in focusing on counter-vandalism, please practice patrolling recent changes for about a month with the tools currently available to you before reapplying for rollback. — Newslinger talk 18:26, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Hintha

I am requesting this right to address ongoing vandalism across the substantial watchlist I monitor. I have a lengthy and significant track record (16 years) of good edits and article contributions and am familiar with Wikipedia's vandalism policy. Hintha(t) 20:47, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:OrangeGarfield

Hello. I was granted temporary Rollback a while back, and now it has expired. I am applying for the Rollback status to continue to fight vandalism efficiently using the tools available for Rollbackers. I have since been continuing to help fight vandalism with Twinkle on Wikipedia articles and have also warned users after reverting their edits. Though there were some reverting misclicks, I undid them and promise to be more careful. Thank you. OrangeGarfield (talk) 22:42, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi OrangeGarfield, and thanks for volunteering to revert vandalism with Huggle. I've reviewed your use of rollback for the month that you had access to this feature, and your edits generally look fine. When using Huggle, please specify a reason for reverting edits as often as possible (through the drop-down menu or keyboard shortcuts on the Revert and Warn function). It's always better to be more specific than to leave a revert potentially unexplained. Keep up the great work! — Newslinger talk 18:51, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Joeee777

Hi there, I am an active user of Wikipedia, who is doing nothing but helping to improve different pages. I mainly update content on discography pages, and am often reverting unsourced changes and vandalism. This can often be quite time consuming, especially when I notice a vandalism or unsourced change behind more recent edits. Of course, I am a legitimate user, who is going to continue assist in improving information on pages, and would highly appreciate acceptance of having the rollback feature.

Joe. Joeee777 (talk) 02:00, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Joeee777: It seems that you have only a little anti-vandalism experience according to your contributions. I think it will be better if you give some examples of your reverts to the admins. Regards, Matttest (talk) 04:11, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Joeee777, and thanks for volunteering. Did you know that Twinkle also has a one-click revert function, in addition to many other useful tools? I recommend that you turn on Twinkle in your settings regardless of whether you have rollback. Since Twinkle already allows you to undo edits quickly, the main purpose of the rollback permission is to grant access to advanced counter-vandalism tools such as Huggle, and we want to see some more experience in this area before offering this access.  Not done for now, but if you are interested in focusing on counter-vandalism, please review the guide to cleaning up vandalism and practice patrolling recent changes for about a month with an anti-vandalism tool available to you (e.g. RedWarn, Twinkle, or manually with the "undo" feature) and then reapply for rollback. — Newslinger talk 19:05, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Paper9oll

Hello! I’m Paper9oll. I am applying to become a rollbacker because the pages I mainly edits always have vandalism, and I would like a quicker way to revert that. I have been on Wikipedia since 2013, have made over 5000 edits, and have familiarized myself with what vandalism on Wikipedia looks like and how to revert it. Currently, I have Twinkle to help me to revert vandalism on desktop, however on mobile, I would first need to click on the article title when viewing from the diff page, then click on the revert icon, before able to click on the undo button. This is reason why I don't contribute mainly using mobile or when I'm away from my PC due to the additional steps required. Thank you for considering me! 🍊 Paper9oll 🍊 (📣📝) 13:49, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(Non-administrator comment) Just a note, many users reportedly have said that rollback is incredibly hard to use on mobile, and it leads to a lot of accidental rollbacks. ThatIPEditor (talk) 02:03, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@ThatIPEditor: Thanks for the heads up, the rights is also useful for desktop usage to rollback outright vandalism even if the usage on mobile is/was reported by other users to be "non-user friendly" (I only seen one which was reported to be a bug). Paper9oll (📣📝) 07:13, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(Non-administrator comment) By default, confirmation is required when rolling back on mobile devices. It can be disabled in your gadgets section of preferences. The gadget name is "Require confirmation before performing rollback on mobile devices" (you will not see the gadget right now because you do not have the right yet). ~ Ase1estecharge-paritytime 17:52, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Hi Paper9oll, let's do a one-month trial. Your counter-vandalism work generally looks fine, although there was a mistake in Special:Diff/1007496789 – which I noticed that you apologized for in Special:Diff/1007500231. Please practice counter-vandalism with rollback for the next month and take care not to rollback edits in violation of WP:ROLLBACKUSE. When the permission is about to expire, please submit another request here to have it instated permanently. — Newslinger talk 19:25, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Huggums537

Hi, I recently took the Wikipediholism test, and though it states it is for entertainment purposes, I scored 610, and was advised that I qualify for rollback rights. I think that's not completely arbitrary since I do have some experience using the rollback feature to fight vandalism using Twinkle some time ago before a lengthy block. I've come back off my block off to a great start, and had not thought about requesting any special rights until I took the test, but I think it might come in handy for certain situations, where I believe the Twinkle rollback feature is only available on the diff pages if memory serves correctly. Anyway, thank you for your consideration. Huggums537 talk 04:15, February 13, 2021‎
{{not done}} @Huggums537: Thanks for your interest. Rollback is for reverting vandalism, and I don't see any record of anti-vandalism work in the past couple years of your contributions. Please gain more experience undoing vandalism with the built-in undo feature or Twinkle's rollback feature (which does not require this permission). Also note that the Wikipediholism test is comedic and a poor justification for requesting permissions. — The Earwig ⟨talk⟩ 23:24, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, The Earwig. I think there was a misunderstanding. I see it was a mistake to mention the test at all when I could have applied on my experience alone. The only reason I did mention it is because it happened to remind me of the thought to petition for the feature. If you read my request from the beginning, you see that I'm fully aware the test is for entertainment, since I did clearly mention that at the start of my request. I think another part of the misunderstanding is that there appears to be some kind of glitch, where my experiences with Twinkle are not showing up correctly as they should. I went back into my contrib history and found that multiple diffs where I used Twinkle to welcome users is "blacked out". Also, when I checked the rollback, and undo links above to see my Twinkle contributions, none of my previous experience showed up. However, when I go into my contrib history I find lots of good examples: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Presenteeism&diff=prev&oldid=816059623, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Chris_Volz&diff=prev&oldid=816053812, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=The_Trixie_%26_Katya_Show&diff=prev&oldid=815920232, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kevin_Abstract&diff=prev&oldid=815903165, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Darrell_M._Smith&diff=prev&oldid=815896358, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ziehl%E2%80%93Neelsen_stain&diff=prev&oldid=815891530, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lord_Alfred_Hayes&diff=prev&oldid=815596962 to name a few not showing up. Lastly, the lengthy block I mentioned was about 2 years long, so that would explain not finding any vandalism work in the past couple years. I've been working on the short description project, and my over neglected userpage pretty strongly since I got off my block, but I'm still just as committed to stopping vandalism as I once was before. Thanks. Huggums537 (talk) 00:52, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Huggums537: I understand you were recently unblocked, but it is difficult for me to judge your contributions now entirely based on things that happened three years ago. Few of these examples (the last one is good) are reverting clear vandalism and would not be appropriate uses of rollback. You did the correct thing by undoing them with a clear edit summary. Please understand that to grant you rollback, which should only be used to revert clear vandalism, I need to see a track record of anti-vandalism work. You can start doing this without the rollback permission and come back when you have more recent experience. Wikipedia:Recent changes patrol and Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy are useful resources. — The Earwig ⟨talk⟩ 01:19, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. I'll apply later. Huggums537 (talk) 04:25, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The Earwig, I changed my mind, because I did some more digging, and I found what I think you are looking for, some examples of blatant vandalism I took care of: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lethal_injection&diff=prev&oldid=812846457, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Eclipse&diff=prev&oldid=812799070, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cognitive_development&diff=prev&oldid=812706915, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_presidents_of_India&diff=prev&oldid=812706284, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cinema&diff=prev&oldid=812705013, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Islamic_music&diff=prev&oldid=812352492, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:213.205.252.164&diff=prev&oldid=812349087, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mesh_networking&diff=prev&oldid=812348628, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:41.207.49.242&diff=prev&oldid=812348011, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bara_people&diff=prev&oldid=812347880, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Space_farming&diff=prev&oldid=812345070, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Space_farming&diff=prev&oldid=812344955, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Police_National_Computer&diff=prev&oldid=812344581, and https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=MTN_Group&diff=prev&oldid=812341728. I hope this is enough to satisfy anyone that I know very well how to deal with blatant vandalism. I had hoped that it would be simple enough for me to demonstrate that I have enough general knowledge and experience of policy to do really any kind of revert with the first set of examples I gave, but since an overall good general understanding of reversions seemed insufficient, I hope these specific examples that I know what blatant vandalism is will be enough to convince someone I can wield the tool responsibly. Huggums537 (talk) 11:40, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I still think it would be a better use of your time to gain some recent experience. However, I will let another admin review your request. — The Earwig ⟨talk⟩ 19:37, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I think that seems fair enough. I think the fact that I'm able to go back and correctly identify exactly the right diffs needed should say something positive about me as well. Also, I see no reason why I couldn't get some recent experience while having the tool, since I do have the previous experience to use it, and the tool could always be taken back if I've ever shown improper use. My previous experience does come with a 100% money-back satisfaction guarantee! :) Thank you. Huggums537 (talk) 21:32, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to add that I went ahead and got me some recent experiences just for kicks as well if anyone would like to take a look at that too... Huggums537 (talk) 03:59, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Final thing to add is that I need someone to grant me this right in order for me to be able to use some vandalism tools I'm interested in that require it: Huggle, and SWViewer. Thanks. Huggums537 (talk) 00:03, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done Hi Huggums537, let's do a one-month trial. Your counter-vandalism work generally looks fine, although there was a mistake in Special:Diff/1008045444 and Special:Diff/1008045859 – editors are allowed to remove warning templates from their own user talk pages per WP:OWNTALK, and they should not be reinserted solely because they were removed. Please practice counter-vandalism with rollback over the next month and take care not to rollback edits in violation of WP:ROLLBACKUSE. When the permission is about to expire, please submit another request here to have it instated permanently. Keep up the good work. — Newslinger talk 19:53, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Tartan357

I've been using Twinkle's rollback feature for several months now to fight vandalism and disruptive edits, mostly on WP:RCP or in high-disruption areas I frequent, such as WP:AP2. I always issue warnings when rolling back and am careful to select the most appropriate warning for each situation. I feel I have a good grasp of when to request page protection vs. when to report a user to a noticeboard. I have no recent history of edit warring, nor have I received any complaints about my use of Twinkle. Recently, I've been fighting vandalism and disinformation related to the 2021 Myanmar coup d'état. I'd now like the rollback permission so I can use Huggle. I have read WP:ROLLBACKUSE and understand the limited circumstances in which using the tool is appropriate. ― Tartan357 Talk 20:49, 15 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
