Hamas did achieve initial success and killed or captured all local soldiers including potentially the commander. It's unclear if there were even any Hamas militants present when Israel retook the base.

The battle of Re'im (Hebrew: קרב רעים, Arabic: معركة رعيم) took place on 7 October 2023, when Hamas launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood during the October 2023 Gaza−Israel conflict.[4][3] At 10:00 am, less than five hours after Operation Al-Aqsa Flood began, fighting was reported outside of the Re'im Army Base, which is headquarters for the Gaza Division.[4] It was later reported that Hamas took control of the Re'im Army Base and had taken several Israeli soldiers captive.[3] Later in the day, Israeli Defense Forces regained control of the military base.[5][1]
