Henry Wong Pak-yu (Chinese: 王百羽; born 15 February 1991) is a Hong Kong social activist. He is the spokesman of the local community group Tin Shui Wai New Force and also a member of the Information Technology subsector in the Election Committee. In 2019, he won in the District Council election and became a member the Yuen Long District Council for Tin Heng.

Biography

Wong was graduated from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) majoring in Computer Science and Engineering, BEng in Computer Science. He started his career in financial industry as IT Support/Helpdesk Engineer. Inspired by the Umbrella Revolution, Wong joined the Tin Shui Wai New Force at the end of 2014 and became spokesperson of the organisation later.[1]

Wong also participated in 2015 District Council election, running in Tin Heng against incumbent Luk Chung-hung of the pro-Beijing Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions (FTU). He lost the election by 1,317 to Luk's 2,749 votes.[2] He also stood as a second candidate with Wong Chun-kit of the localist Youngspiration in the 2016 Legislative Council election. His ticket received 9,928 votes, ranking 14th place and was not elected. In the December Election Committee Subsector elections, he ran in the Information Technology subsector under the "IT Vision" banner and was successfully elected as one of the 1,200 electors who had the power to elect the Chief Executive in 2017. In the election, he decided to cast the blank vote in protest to the undemocratic system.[3]

In 2019, he ran against Luk Chung-hung in Tin Heng again in the 2019 District Council election. Riding with the pro-democracy tsunami amid the anti-extradition protests, Wong defeated Luk with 6,004 votes and was elected to the Yuen Long District Council.

Wong ran in the pro-democracy primaries for the 2020 Legislative Council election in District Council (Second) constituency. He received 71,706 votes in total, surpassing veteran democrat James To and was nominated as one of the four candidates in the general election.[4]
