Dr. Getachew Jigi Demekssa (born 4 December 1967) is a scholar studying conflict resolution in the Horn of Africa, political science and international relations. He is a founding member, executive committee member and head of Political and Organizational department of Oromo federalist movement (OFDM), member of the Ethiopian federal parliament, chair of the Oromo Parliamentarians Council, lecturer and researcher in Ethiopia and universities abroad.

Early life

He was born in Oromia - Ethiopia Mansibu ( Kiltu Kara) where he received his early education and higher education at Medianalem high school in Finfinnee.

Getachew holds a bachelor's degree in economic and management 1995 and a master's degree in Management of National economy 1997 from Russia Friendship University. His PhD is in political science and international relations 2000 from Moscow State University. Political Scientist, Associative Prof. Dr. Getachew Jigi 50, is the author of 4 books, dozens of scholarly articles, and thousands of articles. He speaks, reads and writes more than 5 languages. He is a founding member of OFDM and founder of OPC. He testified at the European parliament during hearings on human rights violations in Ethiopia, criticizing the US and the EU for their support to the Ethiopian regime. He is against any dictatorship in Ethiopia and the world. He opposes any religious extremism and terrorism.

Getachew believes in the self-determination of Oromo people, Freedom of Oromia and Oromia independent state in Horn of Africa. He believes land should be held only by indigenous farmers and wants to make Afaan Oromo the official language of Ethiopia to empower Oromo people politically, socially and economically.

Over the past 18 years, he has become known to dozens of millions of people in Africa, as he systematically supported numerous persecuted African nations, advocating to protect African refugees, defending the Human and Civil Rights of kush marginalized nations like like, Oromos, Ogadenis, Sidamas, Afars, Benishangul, Nuer, Anuak, Agaws, Kaffas, Shekachos, Kambaatas, and other nations. Researcher as Associate Professor of Political science, Sociology, global conflicts studies, consultant, project coordinator, and social service problems It has also equipped with greater skill of understanding problems and tailor ingenious solutions to break unrelenting problems, resolve conflicts, and ease sequels of social problems addressing core development issues. Getachew is the 9th of 10 children in his family.

Career

As a scholar Getachew has been an Associative professor at various universities and has published scholarly articles and books. He was the first faculty appointment in New Generation University College Department of Management in 2003, and he has lectured Royal and Greece colleges 2004. In 2005 he was appointed as dean of Atlanta College Addis Ababa, He is organizing researchers group on the Oromo Language, Culture and Oromummaa Study Institute for Oromia under OPC. He published hundreds of article, on all international website mostly on www.oromoparliamentarians.org
