Mountain Sounds is a joint recording project composed of Tim Hoyt and Franc Castillejos, citizens of the United States and Guatemala respectively. The pair originally met and began playing together in Florida where Castillejos had moved for school, but reconnected several years later after he returned to Guatemala and Hoyt moved to Portland, Oregon. Their debut album was self-produced in an unused orphanage originally built by Castillejos' parents in the Cerro Alux Mountains outside of Guatemala City. It was mixed by Matt Wilbur of The Vanguard Room and mastered by Troy Glessner.[1] The first track from the album, Lion or the Bee, was premiered by Rolling Stone as a Daily Download,[2] and the full album was made available by Beats Per Minute as a free stream in advance of its official release date of March 26, 2013.[3]
