Her follow-up single, "Dance Monkey", was released on 10 May 2019 and reached number one on the Australian, Belgian (Flanders), Danish, Dutch, Finnish, German, Irish, New Zealand, Norwegian, Swedish, Swiss, French and Austrian singles charts. She released her debut EP, The Kids Are Coming, on 30 August 2019.[2]

Life and career

Watson is originally from the Mornington Peninsula and learned how to play the keyboard and drum pad at high school. In her early days she would also perform at local nights on the Mornington Peninsula such as Harba Tuesday's and Gods Tuesday's, this was in conjunction with performances at festivals such as let go fest under the alias of Toni Watson. In 2018, Tones and I received a busking permit for Bourke Street, in the Melbourne city centre. At the same time, she took a trip to Byron Bay and began busking there and quickly became a popular busker; this led to quitting her retail job and making Byron Bay her new home. Later in 2018, Tones and I won Battle of the Buskers at Buskers By the Creek.[3][4]

On 1 March 2019, Tones and I officially released the debut single, "Johnny Run Away" which was recorded with Konstantin Kersting.[5] On 10 May 2019, Tones and I released "Dance Monkey".[6] In August 2019, it reached number one on the ARIA Singles Chart. It went on to reach number one in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand, Switzerland, France, Austria, Germany and Belgium (Flanders), and the top 5 in Belgium (Wallonia) and the Netherlands. In the last week of September 2019, 'Dance Monkey' finally reached the UK top 10 jumping from number 14 to number 7 on it's 7th week in the UK Top 75.

In 2019, Tones and I appeared on Network Ten's children's TV show Toasted TV and performed "Dance Monkey".[7][8] In May 2019, she also performed at the Big Pineapple Music Festival, as well as opening Splendour in the Grass 2019, where she broke the record for the biggest crowd of an opening set at Splendour.[9] In July 2019, Tones and I released "Never Seen the Rain" and announced the release of her debut extended play The Kids Are Coming. In September 2019, Tones and I performed at the 2019 AFL Grand Final.
