Requests for arbitration

Personal Attack with disgracing insults by Future Perfect at Sunrise

Initiated by Stevepeterson (talk) at 15:48, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Involved parties

Confirmation that all parties are aware of the request
Confirmation that other steps in dispute resolution have been tried

I tried to explain that I feel insulted and disgraced but he kept attacking me even in his response to my attempts

I also informed him about my request for arbitration here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Future_Perfect_at_Sunrise&diff=884871909&oldid=884754576

Statement by Stevepeterson

In a discussion in Talk:North_Macedonia I expressed my opinion that wikipedia should adhere to the recently signed Prespa agreement between North Macedonia and Greece in favour of peace in wikipedia. User User:Future_Perfect_at_Sunrise disagreed with me and personally attacked me repeatedly using disgracing words:

you really ought to leave this discussion to others who are competent speakers of English and don't have tin ears.

And: you really need to shut up and learn some English and some proper grammatical terminology before you expose your incompetence further here. It's getting quite embarrassing to watch.

Later, he offended all editors by trying to collapse the whole conversation claiming "Embarrassing display of linguistic incompetence."

Response to statement by User
power~enwiki : I've never proposed that wikipedia should publish the sentence "the Greek and North Macedonia's Prime Ministers". In the discussion page I shared my opinion that we should use the term "North Macedonia's" as an adjective to the State's name: North Macedonia. Poor English or not, this (along with "of North Macedonia") is the adjective recommended by "the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia". The Greek / Macedonia's PM example was introduced by Fut.Perf to demonstrate that adherence to Prespa would lead to bad English

Hi, Stevepeterson, if you could withdraw this request for arbitration, it would save you and everyone else a lot of time. It's not going to be accepted, because you haven't utilised any other form of dispute resolution process—which is a requirement for a case to be accepted here; if you believe it t be in the project's best interests, I suggest you file a complaint for the community to consider (at an administrators' noticeboard) the merits of your case. It likely that you will then be told that you have no case; but, at least you will not have had to initiate these proceedings to that find out. Happy editing otherwise! ——SerialNumber54129 16:11, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Statement by power~enwiki

This isn't entirely frivolous, but I agree with SN54129 that an ANI thread would have been a better forum.

Fut.Perf's comments are a bit harsh, though his point that Stevepeterson's English is not perfect is based on clear evidence in that thread. Several other editors have pointed out more politely that referring to the Greek and North Macedonia's prime ministers is not a grammatical construction Wikipedia should use. Neither poor English nor mild incivility justify a case.

Unless the committee feels that the various disputes regarding Wikipedia's treatment of the Prespa agreement won't be resolved through the currently-open RFCs, this should not become a case. power~enwiki (π, ν) 17:29, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Stevepeterson, those are personal attacks and quite odd behavior from an administrator, but your complaint does not belong here, because ArbCom is the very last port of call in any unresolved dispute, not the first. If you cannot work it out on Fut Perfect's usertalk page and get him to strike the attacks, then the place to file a complaint would be WP:ANI. Or, alternatively, possibly WP:AN, but ANI is the usual spot. Do be aware, however, that if you file a complaint anywhere, your behavior will be scrutinized too, so you might be subject to a boomerang result if it is determined you have acted much more poorly than Fut. Vote key: (Accept/decline/recuse)

  • Decline. An arbitration case should be the last resort if other dispute resolution attempts have failed. It doesn't appear that any form of resolution at ANI or a similar dispute resolution venue has been sought. GorillaWarfare (talk) 18:40, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
