Life and career

Beginnings

Harris was born in Clarendon, Jamaica, before moving to Kingston to pursue his music career. Harris recalled living a difficult life growing up in Jamaica with a large family with 22 siblings, being poor, and living on his own since the age of 15. He also talked about being physically and mentally abused in his early life. [1] He attended Edwin Allen High but dropped out of 10th grade, living alone in a dwelling that was bereft of amenities, such as running water and electricity and was lost to the world. He later continued studies at Kingston College in Jamaica after meeting producer Donovan Germain of Penthouse Records.[2][3]

2010: Digicel Rising Stars

In 2010, Harris became the youngest winner of the Jamaican singing competition Digicel Rising Stars where the singer won a cash prize of $1.5 million JMD. However the singer went back in poverty after the show.[4]

2010-2017: Success in Jamaica

After his win, he released three albums in his homeland Jamaica.[5][which?] He was managed by producer Donovan Germain. He topped the Jamaican dance hall charts in 2014 with his single "Pauper".

He then migrated to the States for five years ago to widen his scope[6]. He released many tracks like "I'm Numb", "Watch Over Me" and "That Wonderful Sound" in 2015, "All I Need", "Whisper in the Wind", "Unfaithful Chronicles" and "Dem Kinda Woman" in 2016 and "Perilous Time" in 2017. In 2018, he released the joint album Unintentional Astronaut with Mike Needler.

2018–present: The X Factor

In 2018, Harris entered Season 15 of The X Factor in the UK. He auditioned for the show with his first song "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" from Elton John impressing judges on the show with his singing talent. He admitted that he had been preparing to audition for the show for seven years right after his win of the title in Jamaica. He received four yeses from the four judges Robbie Williams, Ayda Field, Louis Tomlinson and Simon Cowell. Competing in the category of "Boys" he was coached by Louis Tomlinson.

Owing the the success and increasing popularity of the Jamaican act, the British X Factor is being broadcast in Jamaica after the local Television Jamaica (TVJ) bought the rights of broadcasting the programme live in Jamaica.[7]

On the six chair challenge Harris was the last contestant to perform singing "Purple Rain" by Prince. He performed "I'm Feeling Good" on the semi-finals in week 6 and "Clown from Emili Sandé[8] Harris was consistently the favorite to win the 2018 UK X Factor.[9] Harris has reached the final of the contest on December 1, 2018 alongside Anthony Russell and Scarlett Lee. In the finals, he sang "A Song for You" from Donny Hathaway and dueted "Beneath Your Beautiful" with Emile Sande. His winning song is "Power of Love" as a duet with the season 9 X Factor winner in 2012 James Arthur.
