- Comment: There are still no references on this article. There are literally hundreds of references for the Paper Mario series. Paper Mario (series)
The Paper Mario series was started by Nintendo in 2000. It is largely based on a paper theme (as the name implies) and an RPG game. All of the games, except for Super Paper Mario, featured a turn-based combat system.[1]

All of the games in the Paper Mario series (with the exception of Super Paper Mario) featured a turn-based combat system. All of the games feature a paper-like theme, but most notably is in Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Paper Mario: Color Splash.

Paper Mario
Paper Mario[2][3] was released worldwide between 2001 (2000 in Japan). Its emphasis on the paper theme was not as strong as later games in the Paper Mario series.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door was released in 2004. It was the successor of Paper Mario and was similar in different ways; for example, both Paper Marios had multiple sidekicks to choose from and both had a story-like gameplay. In the game, a player main objective was to collect seven crystal stars[4] before reaching the end and defeating the Shadow Queen.
Super Paper Mario
Super Paper Mario was a side-scrolling video game released on the Wii in 2007. Unlike it's predecessors, it had a 2D theme which could be "flipped" around and change to 3D.
Paper Mario: Sticker Star
New to the Paper Mario series was Paper Mario: Sticker Star, which actually had papercraft theme
Paper Mario: Color Splash
Paper Mario: Color Splash is the fifth game in the Paper Mario series. It was developed by Intelligent Systems and released by Nintendo in October of 2016.[5]
Spin-off
Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam
Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam (also known as "Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Bros.") is role-playing video game that is the fifth game in the Mario and Luigi series and a spin-off in the paper Mario series.[6]
Plot
The plot of most of the games was to save Princess Peach from Bowser, but in two of them one would have to obtain a set number of mystical devices before reaching the end of the game.
