Josip Pečarić (born 3 September 1948) is a Croatian Academician, mathematician and the professor of mathematics at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. He has written and co-authored over 1100 articles[2] on mathematics in journals, books, and conference proceedings.

Biography

Personal life

Josip Pečarić was born in Kotor, Montenegro on 3 September 1948[3] where he attended elementary and high school. He studied at the University of Belgrade's Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and completed his master's degree in electrical engineering under the supervision of mathematics professor, Dobrilo Tošić, who inspired him to dedicate himself to mathematics.

He is married to Ankica Pečarić.

Main work

Pečarić is an expert in the theory of inequality. He is considered "...a great name in the theory of inequality".[citation needed][4] Pečarić is the editor-in-chief and founder of the international journal, Mathematical Inequalities and Applications. He is an editor for several international journals and publishing houses.[4] In addition to his scientific work, he is known as a journalist.[citation needed] Pečarić has authored numerous newspaper articles and books dealing with journalistic and historical topics.[4][5]

Pečarić was honored with the Annual State Award for Sciences (1997), and the Order of Danica Hrvatska (1999).[citation needed]

Up to date he authored or coauthored 1143 books and articles out of which 597 are only once or not cited at all. According to this interview[6] Pečarić attempted to get an assistant professor position in mathematics three times unsuccessfully: twice at Belgrade University and once at Rijeka University, Rijeka Croatia - all in 1980-ies.
