Hosur Aerodrome (IATA: VO95) (Tamil:ஒசூர் வானூர்தி நிலையம்)is a private VFR airfield located at Belagondapalli, 10 Kilometres southwest of Hosur, Tamil Nadu, India.

The airfield is owned by Taneja aerospace and aviation Limited (TAAL), established in 1994 as the first private sector company to manufacture General Aviation aircraft in India.[citation needed] TAAL uses the airfield for its Aircraft Manufacturing, Sales and MRO businesses. This aerodrome is approved and licensed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation under private use category. The aerodrome complex also houses MRO facilities of Air Works India[1] and widebody aircraft painting facilities of Air Livery.[2] Many Indian carriers notably SpiceJet, GoAir,Vistara and Jet Airways send their aircraft to Hosur for 'C' checks and 1200 hours inspections by Air Works Ltd., and for painting done by Air Livery.

Structure

Hosur Aerodrome has one asphalt runway, oriented 09/27, 7012 feet long and 150 feet wide, capable of accepting Airbus A-320 and Boeing 737 aircraft and has night landing facilities which are pending approval. At the moment, the airfield is purely VFR lying in the local flying area of HAL Bangalore Airport, approach control to aircraft is provided by HAL ATC which terminal advisory control is provided by hosur tower.

Navigational aids at Hosur include PAPI lights and an Aerodrome beacon. It has aprons measuring 110 X 90 and 110x80 metres for Jet Aircraft and another one measuring 40 x 19 metres for Turboprop and Light Aircraft. [3]

There are three hangars at the aerodrome used by TAAL and Airworks for General Aviation and Commercial aviation aircraft respectively. The Airworks Hangar 1 is capable of accommodating one Airbus 321 or a Boeing 737-800 or two ATR-72's, and the Hangar 2 can accommodate three Boeing 737 at a time.[citation needed]

Future Public Use

Hosur airfield has been selected as one of the airfields to be made available for passenger traffic in the Ministry of Civil Aviation's Regional Connectivity Scheme(RCS). Regional carrier Trujet has been awarded the Hosur to Chennai sector for passenger use. Efforts are underway by the management of the airfield and Tamil Nadu government to obtain a NOC from Bangalore's Kempegowda International Airport following the restriction in the greenfield airport's concession agreement which prohibits commercial aerodrome usage of any airport within 150kms from KIAL.Recently in august 2017 “no-objection“ from the Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) board to the Hosur airport in Tamil Nadu to operate five flights a week .

The next clearance for operationalising the Hosur airport has to come from the Ministry of Defence as the airspace (the southern part of Bengaluru, including Hosur) is managed by the HAL ATC (Air Traffic Control).
