Enrique de Aragón y Pimentel, known as el Infante Fortuna (Calatayud, 25 july 1445 - Castelló d'Empúries, 2 July 1522), was Count of Ampurias and Count and later first Duke of Segorbe. He was also Viceroy of Catalonia between 1479 and 1493.
Life
He was the only and posthumous son of Henry, Duke of Villena and his second wife Beatriz de Pimentel.
He succeeded his father as Count of Ampurias and Count of Segorbe in 1458, when his uncle Alfonso V of Aragon, who had acted as Regent, died. In 1469, the County of Segorbe was raised to a Duchy.
When his cousin, Ferdinand II of Aragon became King in 1479, Enrique was appointed viceroy of Catalonia.
He died in Castelló d'Empúries on 2 July 1522 and was buried in the Poblet Monastery.
Marriage and Children
In 1488, he married Guiomar de Portugal, sister of Fadrique de Portugal, royal counselor of Charles I. They had 3 children :
- Juan de Aragón (1488-1490).
- Alfonso de Aragón y Portugal (1489-1562), Viceroy of Valencia.
- Isabel de Aragón (1491-?), married in 1513 with Íñigo López de Mendoza, 4th Duke of the Infantado.
