On 4 December 2013, the Task Force on Constitutional Development headed by the [[Chief Secretary for Administration]] [[Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor|Carrie Lam]], [[Secretary for Justice (Hong Kong)|Secretary for Justice]] [[Rimsky Yuen]], and [[Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs]] [[Raymond Tam]] published the ''[[2014–15 Hong Kong electoral reform|Consultation Document on the Methods for Selecting the Chief Executive in 2017 and for Forming the Legislative Council in 2016]]'' and launched the five-month consultation period, to generate a consensus for a set of reform proposals for the 2017 Chief Executive election and 2016 Legislative Council election.

The Hong Kong Chief Executive election of 2017 will be the election for the fifth term of the Chief Executive of Hong Kong and is scheduled for 2017. According to the National People's Congress Standing Committee's (NPCSC) resolution in 2007, the election may be implemented by the method of universal suffrage.[1]

Since the proposals vetoed by the Hong Kong Legislative Council on 18 June 2015, the Chief Executive election would remain as elected by 1200 electoral committee members.

Background
