(Günther, 1859)

The pink maomao, Caprodon longimanus, is a sea bass of the subfamily Anthiinae of the family Serranidae, found in the eastern Indian Ocean, and southern Pacific Ocean including Australia and New Zealand, at depths of up to 220 m. Its length is up to 50 cm.

The pink maomao is a fairly large sea bass with a narrow elongate body and a deeply forked tail. The pectoral fins are very long, and assist in manoeuvering in open water to capture the planktonic animals on which they feed.

Coloration is an almost uniform glowing pink, some larger individuals having a black splotch on the upper flanks and a scattering of yellow-orange markings on the body and fins.

They make excellent eating.
