Iris setosa is a species in the genus Iris, it is also in the subgenus of Limniris and in the Iris series Tripetalae. It is a rhizomatous perennial.

It is wrtten as 山鸢尾 in Chinese script and 'shan yuan wei' in China.[2] In Japan it is known as Hiougi-ayame.[3]
