History

According to John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales, in 1872 the Basingstoke and Salisbury railway line ran through Boscombe, and there was a post office, almshouses and a Norman church. The population at that time was 143.[3] By 1894 the population had fallen to 113 and the church was in poor condition.[4]
