Jung Dae-hyun (Hangul: 정대현; born June 28, 1993), often simply known as Daehyun, is a South Korean singer and dancer. He is best known as the main vocalist of South Korean K-pop group B.A.P.[1]

Life and career

1993–2011: Early life and career beginnings

Jung Daehyun was born in Gwangju, South Korea, on June 28, 1993.[1] He later moved to Busan, South Korea. Daehyun has one older brother.[2] Daehyun studied at the Sajik Elementary School and Sajik Middle School. At 18, Daehyun graduated at the Busan Computer and Science High School. Daehyun also came from the Nataraja Academy and was the last member to join B.A.P.[2] When asked how he became a singer, Daehyun commented, "When I was watching TV as a child I learned to be a singer. When I was deciding on a high school, as expected I thought “I have the goal of becoming a singer”, and entered the practical music department. At that time also, I was walking by the music academy and had a chance to audition, passed that, and became a member. I practiced at the academy but from when I entered the company and our debut, about 6 months passed. I was the last one to join. So like that up until our debut, my life was full of noisy instances happening. I didn’t feel that there were any horrible or difficult things."[3]

2012–Present: B.A.P

In March 2011, TS Entertainment already signaled that they will debut a boy band in 2012. Bang Yong Guk was the first member to be revealed in TS Entertainment's upcoming boy band with singles such as "Going Crazy" and "I Remember".[4][5] In August 2011, TS Entertainment introduced its second member, Kim Him Chan and revealed that he will be an emcee in MTV's The Show.[6] In November 2011, TS Entertainment stated that they will debut a sub-unit group for their upcoming boy band previously known as "TS Baby" featuring Bang Yong Guk and another member.[7]

B.A.P debuted in January 2012 with their lead single "Warrior". On January 28, 2012, the group held its debut showcase concert in Seoul, South Korea with over 3,000 people attended the show. Daehyun sang the parts of B2ST's Yoseob in Bang Yong Guk's "I Remember" during the showcase.[8] Their debut single met them critical acclaim as various media outlets dubbed the song and its music video, "powerful and charismatic".[9][10]

Artistry and influences

Jung Daehyun is the main vocalist of the group along with Yoo Youngjae.[1] Daehyun is influenced by R&B and Ballad music and cites Shin Young Jae as his musical influence.[11] Aside from R&B music, he also states that he is majorly influenced by South Korean and American ballad singers.[11]
