The JMSDF bought six [[KC-130|KC-130R]] aircraft that were retired and in storage. They are being refitted with new landing gear supports, cargo door supports, center wing rainbow fittings, and corrosion repair. In addition to structural modifications, the Japanese will receive thirty overhauled [[Allison T56|T56-A-16]] engines and digital cockpit upgrades to include a digital GPS. Regeneration began in November 2012 and will be completed by Fall 2013. The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a multipurpose military transport aircraft used by many different nations around the world. This is a list of the specific military units that fly it.

On 26 September 1992 a NAF Lockheed C-130H Hercules serial number 911 crashed three minutes after take-off from Lagos, Nigeria when three engines failed possibly due to high take-off weight. All 158 people on board were killed, including 8 foreign nationals.[1]

Indian Air Force
  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) inducted its first C-130J-30 Super Hercules on 5 February 2011.[3] The remaining five on order were delivered by the end of 2011, and operated by 77 Squadron, the Veiled Vipers. On 3 October 2011 India announced its decision to buy six additional C-130J-30 Super Hercules[4] taking the total to 12. The IAF has six C-130J-30s in service as of January 2012.[5]

The Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) received first C-130H in 1984 and purchased 16 in total from Lockheed by 1998. JASDF C-130Hs was active in Iraq for the transportation during until 2008 from 2004. Some C-130Hs will be equipped with aerial fuel-receiving and refueling functions.[7][8]

The JMSDF bought six KC-130R aircraft that were retired and in storage. All C-130 aircraft in Turkish service were to begin a 56 month upgrade by Turkish Aerospace Industries termed the Erciyes Program. Two are to be done directly at TAI while the remainder will be upgraded by the Air Force under TAI oversight. Primary aim of the upgrade is to improve the avionics with 17 new systems and five upgraded ones. Turkish content in both hardware and software has been increased to reduce long term costs.[14]
