List of episodes

Family Guy's tenth season debuted on the Fox network on September 25, 2011. The series follows the Griffin family, a dysfunctional family consisting of father Peter, mother Lois, daughter Meg, son Chris, baby Stewie and the family dog Brian, who reside in their hometown of Quahog. The executive producers for the tenth production season are Seth MacFarlane, Chris Sheridan, Danny Smith, Mark Hentemann, Steve Callaghan, Alec Sulkin, and Wellesley Wild. The showrunners are Hentemann and Callaghan.

In 2008, it was announced that Family Guy had been renewed until at least 2012, for a tenth season.[2] It was also announced in 2010 that the series had been renewed in syndication through at least 2015.[3]

During this season, Peter becomes friends with Ryan Reynolds (guest-voicing as himself), the Griffins win the lottery, Meg falls in love with an Amish boy as Peter goes to war with his family, Stewie starts driving Brian's car and accidentally crashes it, Meg dates Quagmire on her 18th birthday, Chris dates a girl who looks like Lois (voiced by Ellen Page), Quagmire asks Peter and Joe to help him kill his sister's (voiced by Kaitlin Olson) violently abusive boyfriend (voiced by Ralph Garman), Peter befriends a dolphin (voiced by Ricky Gervais[4]), Kevin Swanson (voiced by Scott Grimes) surprisingly returns to Quahog on Thanksgiving, Stewie has a best friend who is sick, Brian gets a blind girlfriend, James Woods makes a shocking return after being killed last season after Peter becomes an agent to Tom Tucker, and Brian and Stewie travel back in time to the premiere Family Guy episode.[5]

Also, the hurricane-themed episode that was going to air as part of the ninth season in a crossover with The Cleveland Show and American Dad! aired as the second episode of the season on October 2, 2011. It was put on hold because of the event of the series of tornadoes that killed an estimated 346 people in the Southern United States around the time of the planned original release date.[6]

The tenth season concluded with a one-hour broadcast of two episodes, which aired on May 20, 2012.[7]

In the United Kingdom, the debut episodes were shown on Sunday nights from 20 May 2012 till 30 September 2012 on BBC Three. (Episodes repeated the Saturday after, although re-runs of the series continue to be shown on the channel nightly). It began and concluded with double episode specials.

Volume 10 was released on DVD in Region 1 on 25 September 2012. It will be released in Region 2 in late 2012 and be known as Season 12.[8]

Reception

The season received mixed reviews. Kevin McFarland of The A.V. Club gave a C rating for the season.[9] Tucker Cummings of Yahoo! TV said "Despite a one-hour finale event that delivered a few laughs, 'Viewer Mail #2 / Internal Affairs' tread far too much familiar ground, a problem that's been plaguing the series for some time now."[10] He continued, "There's a tipping point in TV sitcoms where the repeated use of a running joke stops being funny, and just seems lazy and uninspired. If the Viewer Mail concept had been done regularly, it might have seemed more like a tradition (like the Treehouse of Horror on "The Simpsons"). However, by re-using an episode idea from 2002, it seemed to viewers like the creative minds behind the show were just grasping at straws. While some of the concepts were funny (the Griffins as British, life from Stewie's perspective), many jokes fell flat."[10]
