Berthe Meijer was a Holocaust survivor and author. She lived on the street were Anne Frank went to school in Amsterdam, before the Holocaust, and they were both imprisoned at Bergen-Belsen at the same time. [1] Meijer wrote later in her memoir Life After Anne Frank that Frank had told fairytales to her and other Dutch-speaking children while at Bergen-Belsen, that Anne and Margot Frank, among others, sometimes took care of Dutch children while in the camp, and that in addition to her diary, Frank had once attempted writing fairytales. These last two claims were supported by other Holocaust survivors, and the claim of Frank telling fairytales was neither proven nor disproven. [2]

After the Holocaust, Meijer grew up in a Jewish orphanage. [3] In addition to her memoir, Meijer was a culinary journalist who published columns in the Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad, as well as a cookbook. [4] [5]

She died of cancer in 2012. [6] She was survived by her husband, her sister, her son and two grandchildren. [7]
