T4 on the Beach is a British one-day music event which is held on the beach at Weston-super-Mare and televised for Channel 4. The event began in 2003 as Pop Beach in Great Yarmouth, changing to the current title and venue in 2005.[1][2]

The day consists of a number of major contemporary pop and rock music acts from the UK and overseas, performing short sets in front of an audience of over 40,000. In addition to the main stage a smaller 4Music stage has provided a platform for newer upcoming bands, renamed in 2010 to the T4 Sessions stage.[3]

T4 on the Beach 2006

Acts performing at the 2006 event included: All American Rejects, The Automatic, Basement Jaxx, Busta Rhymes, Dannii Minogue, Embrace, The Feeling, Frank, Feeder, Jason Derulo, Kelis, Lily Allen, Matt Willis, McFly, Ne-Yo, Orson, Pet Shop Boys, Pussycat Dolls, Razorlight, Shayne Ward, Simon Webbe, Will Young and The Zutons.[4][5]

T4 on the Beach 2007

The T4 presenter hosts of the event in 2007 were June Sarpong, Steve Jones and Miquita Oliver.

Acts appearing on the main stage included: Kaiser Chiefs, Maroon 5, Manic Street Preachers, Akon, Natasha Bedingfield, Mika, Amerie, Girls Aloud, McFly, Just Jack, Calvin Harris, Mutya Buena, Dizzee Rascal, Funeral for a Friend, Kate Nash, Super Furry Animals, Reverend and The Makers, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Athlete and The Pigeon Detectives.[6][7]

For the first time a second stage was introduced which was named the 4Music Stage. The acts appearing on this stage included: Badly Drawn Boy, Mark Ronson, The Maccabees, Hadouken!, Jamie Scott and the Town, Remi Nicole, The Hoosiers and The Twang.[8]

T4 on the Beach 2008

2008's T4 on the Beach took place on 20 July. The event was hosted by T4 presenters Steve Jones, Alexa Chung, Miquita Oliver, Rick Edwards, Gerard McCarthy and Zoë Lister and was broadcast live on Channel 4. Also, Rock School's Lil' Chris presented on the 4Music Stage.

Acts appearing on the T4 Stage included: Basshunter, The Zutons, Kelly Rowland, Ne-Yo, Scouting for Girls, The Hoosiers, Robyn, The Feeling, The Pigeon Detectives, McFly, Guillemots, Alphabeat, Feeder, The Ting Tings, Reverend and The Makers and OneRepublic.[9][10]

The 4Music Stage played host to: One Night Only, Sugababes, Dirty Pretty Things, Black Kids, Five O'Clock Heroes featuring Agyness Deyn, Lightspeed Champion, The Automatic (who replaced Cage the Elephant who were unable to play due to injury), The Script, Envy & Other Sins and One eskimO.[11]

T4 on the Beach 2009

T4 on the Beach 2009 was held at Weston-super-Mare beach on 19 July and was presented by Steve Jones, Miquita Oliver, Rick Edwards and Jameela Jamil with Leigh Francis in character as Keith Lemon. The rain made this a very wet festival.[12]

The T4 Stage was the venue for: Alesha Dixon, Metro Station, Dizzee Rascal (headliner), Gossip (who opened), Calvin Harris, Tinchy Stryder featuring Amelle Berrabah, N-Dubz, The Noisettes, JLS, Will Young, Taio Cruz, Diversity, Basement Jaxx, Florence and the Machine, Daniel Merriweather, DJ Ironik Ft. Chipmunk, Shontelle,l Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Peter Andre, The Courteeners and The Saturdays.[13][14]

The 4Music Stage saw appearances from: Hockey, Frankmusik, Tommy Reilly, Fightstar, Paloma Faith, The Maccabees, Newham Generals featuring Dizzee Rascal, Killa Kella, Little Boots, The Enemy and Master Shortie.

T4 on the Beach 2010

T4 on the Beach 2010 was held on 4 July at Weston-super-Mare.[15]

The T4 stage was also known as the 4Music Stage. Artists appearing included: Dizzee Rascal, Ellie Goulding, Tinie Tempah, Professor Green, Chipmunk, Scouting for Girls, The Saturdays, Basshunter, Pixie Lott, Jason Derulo, Alexandra Burke, Iyaz, Jedward, Kids in Glass Houses, N-Dubz, Diana Vickers (Faithless were unable to make the festival, therefore Diana Vickers did her set on both stages), Taio Cruz, Kelis and JLS

The T4 Sessions stage was sponsored by Orange. Artists included: Plan B, Example, The Hoosiers, One Night Only, Tinchy Stryder, Gabriella Cilmi, Diagram of the Heart and Diana Vickers.

T4 on the Beach 2011

T4 on the Beach 2011 was held on 10 July. Acts appearing at the event included McFly, The Wanted, The View, The Wombats, Example, Katy B, Wretch 32, Alexis Jordan, NDubz (closing), Chipmunk, Nicola Roberts, Jason Derulo, Tinchy Stryder, The Midnight Beast, Olly Murs (opening), Aloe Blacc, Cher Lloyd, Parade, Sugababes, Ronan Parke, Mann, Hard Fi, Far East Movement, and Scouting For Girls.[16] JLS and Jessie J were scheduled to appear but were unable to attend.
