The fourth series of The Bill, a British television drama, consisted of fourty-eight episodes, broadcast between July 19 and December 29, 1988. This series was the first to adopt a half-hour format. The series was first released on DVD on December 4, 2006 in Australia, incorrectly packaged as Seasons 4 & 5, when infact, the set only contained the entire series four. The series was later issued in four seperate volumes in the United Kingdom, available on June 30, 2008, March 2, 2009, May 11, 2009 and March 15, 2010. It was later reissued in Australia on August 31, 2011. The above DVD artwork is taken from the most recent Australian release. It features an image of DS Ted Roach. The british volume artwork features a variety of collage images features characters from across the season. The original Australian boxset features a sole image of DI Frank Burnside.

Sun Hill launches a full scale search for an escaped convict who has taken a women hostage. Brownlow puts Ted Roach in charge of the operation. A decision that could threaten the woman's life when Roach's actions could push the convict over the edge. Meanwhile, two officers from another station arrive at Sun Hill to transfer a prisoner. When the officers turn out to be the prisoners sidekicks. Yorkie and Ackland must act fast to capture them in order to save there careers. Also, Derek Conway arrives at Sun Hill and quickly befriends Carver. | ||||||
