The Wanted is the self-titled debut release in the United States by British boyband The Wanted. The album is slated for release at some point in 2012 under Def Jam Records.

Background

It was announced in May 2011, during the recording sessions for the second UK album, Battleground, that the group had tentatively signed a record deal with American label Def Jam Records, that would see a debut release for the group in the United States at some point in 2012. In July 2011, the band quietly released "All Time Low" as their debut US single. It failed to achieve mass acclaim, but did peak at #36 on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 2011. Just three weeks later, an EP of the band's performance at the UK iTunes festival was uploaded to the US iTunes store.[3] During this time, the band began recording new material for their debut US release. During recording sessions for the album, the band announced that they had recorded a song with "a big US star", rumoured to be Barbadian pop-star Rihanna, which they intended to include on the release. However, after the song was mixed, tuned and finalised, the band claimed the song "didn't cut it" and said that it had been completely scrapped.[4] In October 2011, "Glad You Came" was released as the group's second US single, and after heavy promotion and radio airplay, the single entered the Billboard Hot 100 at #26. The band soon recieved nationwide acclaim after performing "Glad You Came" on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, their first ever TV performance in the United States.[5] Concurrently, the band's US record deal was reportedly finalised on December 24, 2011, following "Glad You Came"'s success.[6] The band went on tour throughout America in January 2012, where a number of shows became sell-outs.[7] On January 3, 2012, British rapper Example announced that he has contributed the song "Chasing the Sun" for the group's debut US release, and claims that if it is released as a single, it could be the track that would officially allow the band to crack the US market.[8] On January 21, 2012, Justin Bieber's manager Scott Braun backed the group for American success, claiming "they could be as big as the Backstreet Boys or N'Sync with a little bit of guidance."[9] The group announced in January 2012 that their third US single will be "Invincible", which will officially impact US radio on February 18, 2012. On January 31, the group uploaded the cover artwork for the album release, and stated that it will be released during the second quarter of 2012.
