"Ai Se Eu Te Pego"
Song

"Ai se eu te pego" (meaning 'Oh if I get you' in Portuguese) is a 2008 Brazilian song written by Sharon Acioly and Antônio Dyggs and first interpreted by Os Meninos de Seu Zeh directed by Dyggs himself. It was recorded by Brazilian band Cangaia de Jegue also in 2008 and then covered by many other regional Brazilian bands like Garota Safada, Arreio de Ouro, Estakazero, Forró Sacode and Saia Rodada. In 2011, it was popularized by Brazilian singer Michel Teló.

Origin

Os Meninos de Seu Zeh

The first version of the song appeared in late 2008 in Porto Seguro, on the southern coast of Bahia state. It was written by Sharon Acioly of the formation Axé Moi and Antônio Dyggs who was in another musical formation. Sharon Acioly already authored another song and author of the funk hit "Dança do Quadrado".

The band Os Meninos de Seu Zeh directed by Antonio Dyggs (who co-wrote the song) recorded it. The original lyrics said 'sábado na kabana' rather than 'sábado na balada'. The song was reportedly composed in reference to a nightclub "Feria de Santana"

Cangaia de Jegue

The song became a regional success by Cangaia de Jegue originally based in Jequié but at the time based in Salvador, Bahia. The group recorded it in a similarly titled album Ai se eu te pego, a big hit throughout the state of Bahia. The band included a tribute to their hometown singing "Sábado na forró / a Cangaia começou a tocar"

Other versions

That attracted the attention of another musical group Garota Safada from Ceará, becoming yet another regional hit throughout northeast Brazil. Other band that took up the song included Arreio de Ouro, Estakazero, Forró Sacode and Saia Rodada
