Home Before Dark is a 1958 Warner Brothers film, directed by Mervyn LeRoy and stars Jean Simmons, Dan O'Herlihy, Rhonda Fleming and Efrem Zimbalist,Jr.. tHe screnplay was writtten by Eileen and Robert Bassing. The film, and Simmons performance in particular, has since attracetd positive criticism. "Pauline Kael: "Jean Simmons gives a reserved, beautifully modulated performance." - and Film critic Philip French believed it Simmons best work.

Story

Portrait of a mind and marriage at crisi point - Charlotte Bronn (Jean Simmons) leaves a mental institution to resume her life, in a chilly relationship with a husband (Dan O'Herlihy), who seems to be more attracted to Charlotte's stepsister Joan (Rhonda Fleming). On the night of a party, dressed and coiffed to resemble Joan, she loses her self-control, and finally faces the truth about her marriage. A professor (Efrem Zimbalist) offers her compassionate support.
