The Voice is a television talent show series designed as a competition to Idol series and The X Factor. It is a singing competition, held in various countries, which pits contestants against each other. These contestants are aspiring pop singers drawn from public auditions.

The format has been used in Hong Kong-based starting 2009 The Voice and starting 2010 in The Netherlands as The Voice of Holland where it is a top-rated vocal talent discovery show .

The American network television station NBC has announced that it is launching a similar series in the United States with the winner receiving $100,000 and a record deal with a major record label. It is teaming up with originators John de Mol, Mark Burnett and Warner Horizon Television[1] to bring format of "The Voice of Holland" to America. The show will be hosted by Carson Daly. Castings were held in Chicago (January 14, 2011), New York (January 15), Miami (January 21), Nashville (January 22), Minneapolis (January 28), Austin (January 29), Los Angeles (February 4), Seattle (February 11).[1] Online applications were also allowed.[2] and ended on 1 March 2011.
