Make a Scene[2] is the upcoming, fourth studio album from English singer/songwriter Sophie Ellis-Bextor. The album is set for release in April 2011.[3] It was announced in October 2010 that the album's tracklisting had been finalised, and that the album had gone to press.[4]. It is her first studio album released since 2007's Trip the Light Fantastic.

Background

The album was originally planned to be a Greatest Hits compilation, due for release soon after the single "Today the Sun's on Us". However, following initial sessions, it was decided that Ellis-Bextor would record a full studio album instead. The album was originally entitled Straight to the Heart. It has since been revealed that Make a Scene will be the official title.[5] The album's direction was changed after Sophie felt it was currently "not good enough for release".[6] It was originally rumoured that the album's lead single would be "Sophia Loren", following a sample being used in a Rimmel London advertising campaign. However, these plans were later scrapped, with the track only appearing as a B-side to the single "Bittersweet". The album features work with producers such as Calvin Harris, Richard X, Hannah Robinson, Cathy Dennis, Greg Kurstin, Ed Harcourt and Joseph Mount. Ellis-Bextor describes the album as "electro-heavy".[7] Four singles have already been released from the album: "Heartbreak (Make Me a Dancer)", released in June 2009; "Can't Fight This Feeling", released in January 2010; "Bittersweet", released in May 2010; and "Not Giving Up on Love", released in August 2010. It was rumoured that "Off & On" would be released as a single,[8] however, in a response to a question put to her by a fan, Ellis-Bextor revealed that "Revolution" would infact be the album's fifth single.[9] Ellis-Bextor began promotion on the album by performing an acoustic version of "Not Giving Up on Love" on Dermot O'Leary's BBC Radio 2 show on July 11, 2010.[10] The video for the single was directed by Sophie Muller.[11] "Not Giving Up on Love" also appears on collaborator Armin van Buuren's new album Mirage, released on September 4.[12] Sophie confirmed in an interview on BBC Radio Leicester that the album would be released in Spring 2011.[13]
