Chief of the Naval Staff (Pakistan)

The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) is the highest post in the Pakistan Navy ((unless the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee is a naval office). The current Chief of Naval Staff is Admiral Noman Bashir. The CNS directly report to the President of Pakistan, as the President is the head of the state, for the command, utilization of resources and operating efficiency of the operating forces of the Navy and of the Navy shore activities assigned by the Government of Pakistan.

The CNS is a naval advisor to the Prime minister of Pakistan and President of Pakistan who advises the civilian leadership in the matter of naval operations activities or/ the conduct of naval warfare. The Chief of Naval Staff is appointed by the President on the consultation of Prime minister. A requirement for being Chief of Naval Operations is having significant experience in joint duty assignments, which includes at least one full tour of duty in a joint duty assignment as a flag officer. By statue, the CNS is appointed as senior 4 star rank Admiral who also served as a principal member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.
