Walter Elmer Ekblaw (March 10, 1882 - June 7, 1949) was an American geologist and botanist and college professor.
Walter Elmer Ekblaw was born in the state of Illinois. He graduated from the University of Illinois(B.A. 1910). He taught at the University of Illinois from 1910-1913. He subsequently graduated from Clark University in a Doctoral degree. From 1913-1917, he served as geologist and botanist of the Crocker Land Artic Expediation, together with Maurice Cole Tanquary.[1][2] For a number of years, he was a research associate with the American Museum of Natural History. He subsequently became a professor of geography at Clark University (1924-49).
He is credited as the founder of the concept of Homecoming at universities. Together with Clarence F. Williams, he organized the first University homecoming October 15, 1910. [3]
