The Kerala School of Mathematics, Kozhikode is an institute jointly established by National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), Department of Atomic Energy and Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE). The National Board for Higher Mathematics is body established by Government of India to promote the development of higher mathematics.[1] KSCSTE was constituted by Government of Kerala in November 2002 to promote Science and Technology related activities in the Kerala State. It was formed by restructuring the then existing State Committee for Science, Technology and Environment (STEC) which had been established in in 1972.[2]

The Kerala School of Mathematics is operating in a 9.9 acre site in the premises of Centre for Water Resources and Development and Management (CWRDM) at Kunnamangalam near Kozhikode City. It was inaugurated on 3 June 2008 by V.S. Achuthanandan, Chief Minister of Kerala.[3][4] The institute modeled[5] on the Newton Institute in Cambridge University is intended to promote the mathematical studies and research at an all India level with more focus on developing mathematical research of Kerala. It is also aimed to tap the latent mathematical talent in the Kerala traditions which had been brought out by the flourishing of world-class mathematics in the school established by Madhava of Sangamagrama. The academic activities of the School was formally launched with a two-day national workshop on spectral theorem.[6] [7]
