He was the eldest child (but third-born son) of Mieszko III the Old, Duke of Greater Poland and since 1173 High Duke of Poland, by his second wife Eudoxia, daughter of Grand Prince Iziaslav II of Kiev.

Life

Almost inmediately after his birth, Bolesław was considerated the main successor to his father in the Greater Poland inheritance, especially since Mieszko III became in the High Duke and overlord of Poland in 1173 after the death of his brother Bolesław IV the Curly.

In 1177 the governments strong-arm Mieszko III led to the outbreak of the rebellion the nobles of Cracow, who called the throne of Casimir the Just. At the same time he joined the conspiracy or the eldest son of the Duke of Greater Poland from his first marriage - Odo Poznan, who felt threatened in connection with favoritism by Mieszko III, children of the marriage with Eudoxia. Revolt broke out in Wielkopolska in 1177 or 1179 lives completely by surprise, who was forced to flee with Boleslaw and his younger siblings Mieszko and Wladyslaw the country. The Prince of Raciborz, Czech Republic and Germany found refuge with his then son in law and Boguslaw.

Authority over the Wielkopolska Mieszko III the Old, with the help of Pomeranian regained in 1181. Duke is not apportioned if their adult sons districts already trying to pull their own political plans centered around the question of recovery of Krakow. This also probably has to Boleslaw zeswatany Dobrosława daughter of Prince dymińskiego Casimir I (pedigree princess is not quite sure, according to others it was a daughter of the Duke of Pomerania Racibor I).

In 1186 he died leaving no successor Duke of Mazovia Leszek. Most of his heritage, the youngest brother took the lives of the Old Casimir the Just. Some historians think that even at this moment the power of his - Kujawa mastered Mieszko III the Old passing new acquisition in the hands of his son Boleslaw (second alternative option is to deal with Kujawy only in 1194 after the death of Casimir the Just).

Another important date in the life of Boleslaw was the year 1191, when his father Prince using Casimir the involvement of Russia seized Krakow. Then, too, for unknown reasons did not include Mieszko the Old personally governments in the capital, but gave them Boleslaw. Mieszkowice governments, as governor in Krakow is not sustainable for too long, because even in 1191 authority over the capital of Lesser Poland recover Casimir the occasion of his nephew and taking prisoners. Victorious ruler acted generously but then quickly dropping into the wild Boleslaw (source clearly does not indicate which of the sons of Mieszko III, participated in these events - well this could be the Younger lives).

May 5 1194 died Duke of Cracow Kazimierz II the left as their successors in two juvenile sons. Seize the opportunity to regain supreme power tried to use the Old Mieszko, setting off the following year with his son Boleslaw, led troops against the Wielkopolska and Kujawy rzadzącemu Malopolska on behalf of Leszek the White and Conrad Mazowieckie, voivod Nicholas.
