Yo Yogi! is an animated series produced by Hanna-Barbera Studios that aired on NBC on Saturday mornings during the 1991-1992 season. It is, to date, the last television series to feature or star Yogi Bear.

Plot

Taking place in Jellystone Town, it featured a teenage version of Yogi Bear and the other popular Hanna-Barbera characters of his era, including Huckleberry Hound, Snagglepuss, Yogi's own sidekick, Boo Boo and Yogi's admirer, Cindy Bear. The characters hung out at Jellystone Mall, owned by Doggie Daddy, where Ranger Smith (who is now Officer Smith) worked as a security guard and Loopy De Loop is a merchant in Jellystone Mall's Picnic Basket Food Court. Hokey Wolf works as the Mayor of Jellystone Town and Snooper and Blabber working as employed detectives.

Yogi and the gang ran an agency called LAF: Lost and Found, where they act as detectives trying to solve mysteries. Dick Dastardly and his sidekick Muttley would cause trouble for Yogi and his gang. Magilla Gorilla, Top Cat, Secret Squirrel and his buddy Morocco Mole, Hardy Har Har, Squiddly Diddly, and Wally Gator were also featured as teenagers. But the other teenager who was causing trouble with Dick Dastardly was a new character named Roxie Bear who was Cindy's rival and Yogi's competetor.

Atom Ant served as the town superhero, Quick Draw McGraw and his sidekick Baba Looey were wild western themed entertainers, Peter Potamus and his friend So-So own a plant store called Peter Potamus' Plant Palace, and Pixie and Dixie lived in the cheese store owned by Mr. Jinks. Also, Granny Sweet made an appearance in one episode as a shopper at the time when Snagglepuss was a superhero.

Production

Yo Yogi! featured episodes, or parts of episodes, in 3D, with Kellogg's Rice Krispies offering 3D glasses. Generally, the 3D scenes were chase scenes of the variety made famous by Hanna-Barbera in the Scooby-Doo series. At the beginning of these 3D sequences, Yogi would spin his hat atop his head, as a cue to viewers to don their 3D glasses.

The show did not do well in the ratings, and was cancelled in the summer of 1992 in order for NBC to reformat its Saturday morning schedule to teenage audiences and to launch the Saturday edition of The Today Show. It last aired in syndication as part The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera. Modern voice actors played the voices of certain characters due to the passing of Daws Butler, Mel Blanc, Allan Melvin (he died in 2008), Howard Morris (he died in 2005), and Paul Winchell (he died in 2005).
